Super User A-Jay Posted October 8, 2014 Super User Posted October 8, 2014 No Question ~ A Jig & Craw ( back then it was Pork) Looking back at my early days as a young budding bass angler, I think I would have really done some serious damage to the local Bass population if I'd have know what I know now about tossing a jig. I think it was around but I just didn't know anything about it. Might have been Epic. A-Jay Quote
PersicoTrotaVA Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 A Jig and different finesse tactics like wacky worm and the rage rig. A jig especially. Quote
mjseverson24 Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 I wish I would have gotten into casting equipment earlier... a lot earlier, it has allowed me to effectively fish way more presentations than before... Mitch Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted October 8, 2014 Global Moderator Posted October 8, 2014 For me it would be the drop shot. Even tho the lake's I fish may be too shallow to use it effectively. I will also say a jig. Mike Quote
RB 77 Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 The importance of understanding the diffrence betweeen structure and cover and how to fish them accordingly. I believe myself to have a good grasp of them now. It always baffles me just how many people who have been fishing for quite some time do not understand the diffrence between the two and the importance it makes in developing a pattern. Quote
Super User Raul Posted October 8, 2014 Super User Posted October 8, 2014 For me it would be the drop shot. Even tho the lake's I fish may be too shallow to use it effectively. I will also say a jig. Mike Unless your lake is 1 inch deep then it´s not too shallow to fish a dropshot rig effectively. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted October 8, 2014 Global Moderator Posted October 8, 2014 Unless your lake is 1 inch deep then it´s not too shallow to fish a dropshot rig effectively. Ummm I always thought it was a deep water presentation! Shows you how much I know! I have a tournament upcoming on Kentucky Lake in 2 weeks and I was gonna give it a shot during practice for a little while (depending on what my boater deciedes) and go from there. Thanks, I learned something today!!! Mike Quote
Snakehead Whisperer Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 A drop shot rig (which I'll fish anywhere from inches of water to 80+FOW.) Spybaiting and heavy spinnerbaits for suspended fish is another technique that I overlooked for a long time. Most of these "new" techniques have been around for quite some time, they just weren't well known back in the day. Some techniques have been around forever and are still underutilized by bass anglers, structure spoons for instance. No Question ~ A Jig & Craw ( back then it was Pork) x2. I still use the Uncle Josh pork trailers, and pretty much exclusively during the cold water months. 1 Quote
collards Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I do know much more today then I knew years ago and I do catch more fish, but I always had a lot of fun and enjoyed all my fishing. Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted October 9, 2014 Super User Posted October 9, 2014 Mmmmm....probably soft plastics-especially carolina-rigged crawdads and creature baits. They've been around a long time but it's only been within the last ten years (or less) that I really gave them any real game time. I'd hear their pitiful cries, "Put me in, coach!", but I mostly ignored them. NOW, it's what I fish with most of the time. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted October 9, 2014 Super User Posted October 9, 2014 Probably jig and pig/pork. I started fishing it about 9 years ago. I could kick myself for all of those times in the bait store when I looked at a jig and then put it back on the rack. Quote
rangerboy Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 finess swimbaits for suspended bass, and the carolina rig is my go to classic. you can drop shot in any dept, try flipping mats with it as well Quote
