Were into fishing by now and have gotten a tb with a sufficient amount of lures ,but how much of that tackle or lures isn't being used or hasn't yet? I myself ask this question and have alot of lures that haven't been used in yrs or haven't hit the water yet to this day . were always getting new lures /tackle ,but how much is enough? or when does it stop? or does it ? I've got lures that haven't been used to this day after 15yrs and are in mint condition. plastics worms,grubs,etc.. won't need either, but anyway do you still have alot of lures /tackle you still haven't used and buy more anyway? i know in my op (it's better to have more than not enough) but really how much do we need as far as lures /tackle go ? I've aquired to much tackle in my op , but lose some every year, no doubt about that! It's nice to have something to replace it though and have at hand . does this happen to you?

Somewhere there was an article that stated 75% of all freshwater lures sold would never see the water.

Yea, we won't go there.

I see tackle swap meets advertised once in awhile but they are usually too far away or on a weekend with a conflict. I have some good stuff I'll probably never use I would like to trade.

What else is there to do during the off season, but look through catalogs and web sites for fishing stuff that I don't need and will likely never use.  Two winters ago, I got a great deal on an AllStar rod. I've used it once.  Ditto for a BPS ProLite casting reel that I gave away this year.  Don't get me started on lures that haven't even made it INTO my tackle box, let alone seen time in the water!

Once in a while I'll try a new lure, but for the most part I use the same handful of lures I've been using for years.   When one is lost I replace it right away.

I have one Plano 3700 full of drop shot stuff that's never seen water.  For some reason, I just can't make myself try it!

Tight lines,

It got so bad I had to rent a safe house for my unused lures to keep my wife from serving divorce papers !

I really wish we could table this topic for Jan. though as I don't want to be reminded of my shortcomings during Fall fishing season  ...

Those unused lures make great birthday gifts in a pinch - just buy a 3600 and load it up. Love ya, dad!

Kind of frustrating to get outfished by your own neglected stuff, though.

Every single piece of tackle I've bought except maybe some terminal tackle and soft plastic's have been used, I'm jobless at the moment and I cant afford to buy stuff I wont use...

I plead the fifth...

But seriously, I think buying tackle is just as much a part of fishing as going out and catching the fish.

Even if I only use about 30% of what I buy lol

I have gotten some stuff from buying lots of fishing gear on Ebay that someone is selling that I haven't used.  For example an A-rig - I don't have the correct gear to throw this, it will break my current rods due to the size and weight.

"Enough" and "too much" are things the bait monkey not only doesn't understand, but also despises! I'm thinking I could have a whole house full of gear and i wouldn't have "enough" lol. I tend to use most of what I have at one time or another at least as far as hard baits go....soft plastics, well that's another story. I have package upon package of them a lot that I use, but so many are just waiting for the opportunity to get out there and show me what they can do.

I have a habit of "oh this lure was the hot item today, I better go buy 2 more of it in that color, and 2 in the other size that it comes in too".

Or whenever I find out a great bait has been discontinued, I'll buy 5 of them if I find somewhere that still has them in stock.

From the 600+ cranks I own I only fish with maybe 30, that means that there are more than 570 cranks that have never touched the wáter and most are still in their original package.

From the 100 + spinnerbaits I own I fish maybe with 10 on a regular basis.

From the who knows how many pounds of soft plastics I fish only with a few baits, for example, if I´m not wrong I may have, perhaps 50 bags of stickbaits ( "senkos" ) I still have to finish one bag.

Do I have "enough" ? to fish, yes I have enough.

But purchasing lures is as fun as fishing with them and I AIN´T QUITTING purchasing stuff ! NOBODY LIKES A QUITTER !

Yeah, I have some lures that have not touched the water or only touched the water a little bit.  In fact, I was thinking about this subject a few weeks ago and decided I need to start using all those lures I bought over the winter even if they aren't the right thing to use when I go fishing.  Hopefully this winter I won't get that "urge" and buy more lures when its 10 degrees out in January.  lol.

I always say to myself that I'm not going to buy any more lures until I deplete some of the ones I have. Yea right. I've got a problem guys I think I'm a lureaholic. I just can't stop.

Tubes.  I have never in my life fished with a tube.  I have some Fat Ikas and Keitech tubes that i haven't tried using yet.  I do have a few baits and bags of plastics that have never been opened, yet.  I like to try new stuff, plus it keeps the bass guessing.  If I throw the same thing over and over, they can get conditioned.

I don't think anybody fishes all their stuff. Sometimes we will throw it once and not like it as much as something else, sometimes we just never get into, say, spybaiting like we thought we would haha... But hey, at least we can all have big piles of gear to stare at with the gear satisfaction only a fisherman can have. It's the kind of thing you just can't have too much of.

This is kind of how I roll. I buy a bunch of stuff, try it all, decide on my favorites and then sell everything that isn't my go-to in order to stock up on my most favorite items. Having a ton of stuff won't work for me since I fish primarily from a kayak.

Here is how I handle it. I just accept the fact that one of my hobbies is lure collecting. I love it. I keep collecting more every month and/or week and convince myself I will use them. there isn't enough time on the water to ever throw them all.  I separate them as I take them out of the package and put them in their own box.

I don't feel guilty about not using them or spending tons of money as it is my hobby besides fishing.  I love learning about new lures and finding the best price on them.

As far as rods and reels go, I have more or less stopped buying when I had all I needed.  Okay, this isn't entirely true as I have some Abu Garcia round reels that just weren't cutting it (shorter casts and more backlashes) and I replaced them with a couple of Pro-Qualifiers.  But by-in-large, rods and reels just don't have that much allure for me.

Lures, however, seem to still suck me in.  I'm almost as bad as a woman in a shoe store.  In addition to the never ending quest for that magic bullet, baits are just so darn pretty!  I even bought some walleye crank baits-thinking that during my next trip to Canada I might actually use them.  Who's kidding who?  I always wind up chasing Smallies or Northerns while those sad and forlorn walleye baits remain neglected-gently weeping in their little Plano box.  Do I regret buying them?  Heck no!  They were on sale and perhaps....someday......

I hate to think what will happen to all my baits when I die.  Perhaps i'll purchase a coffin with extra compartments and take them with me.

Im strictly a bank fisherman, so i only keep enough to fill my tackle bag, which means 3 flambeau boxes full of terminal tackle and hard-baits, along will plastics and line. This is a good way to limit myself, cause when i step foot in a tackle shop to buy one thing, i end up leaving with 50$ worth of stuff if I'm not carefull.

Antique baits.

Wish I could use them but they are not going into the water anymore.
