will do.

Like mentioned above about the vibration.  I'm going to make a fixture to use the vibration from an aquarium pump along with the air to keep the paint moving about.

Harshman,  I have a question/problem

The powder in the middle is compacting and the outside along the edge is launching into the air.  Do you think I might need something to shoot the air just up the middle?

So far I've got about 12 dollars in this :)

GMAN,

Are you using any vibration while running? I have had this problem and found out that stirring the powder wwith a small diameter wire helps spread out the paint and get the air flowing a little better. Sometimes I have to stir it after dipping a few baits. Might try a different filter as well I bought the cheapest thinest ones I could find and they seem to work a little better than a "good" filter.  Hope this helps. Even if I'm not using mine right it is still producing way better results on my jigs.

I think I paid about $40 shipped for mine off ebay. It has a little air pump from a fish aquarium that works great. Overall you get a better even coat and it uses less powder than dipping.

what are you guys using to control air flow? I bought the cheap aquarium pump from walmart, do I have to lessen the flow from that? Just wondering because that should be my last piece if I need it.  Any detailed info/pics would be greatly appreciated.

My air compressor has a regulator on it that I use to control air flow. I'm sure you could find an inline valve of some sort at a reputable plumbing or hardware store to use with a fish tank pump. Have you tried the pump without it? it might be the right amount of air flow without a valve to begin with.

I will try the stir thing thanks.  I tried it both ways with vibration and no vibration.  About the same.  I am also going to put a small turn valve to regulate the pressure on it.

Back to the workbench.

Hey man you can use a airstone to slow down the flow, or tee off and use two stones one in the paint bed, under the cup and the other outside it. :-/

YOU GUYS MIGHT WANT TO TRY STERNO TO HEAT YOUR JIGS. I GET THEM AT WALMART IN THE CAMPING SECTION. 2 CANS FOR ABOUT 4 BUCKS. I FOUND MY TOASTER OVEN TO BE TO CLUMSY AND CANDLES SMOKED MY JIGS SO THE PAIN DIDN'T STICK WELL ENOUGH AND I MELTED THEM WITH A TORCH. STERNO GETS TO ABOUT 275

Hi guys!  This is my first post here.  Great site!

This thread has changed my mind from using vinyl paint to powder paint.  the fluid bed seems easy enough to make and at a very reasonable cost.

I was doing some thinking on the subject and was wondering what you guys thought of this:

http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441811415&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302030044&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023693&bmUID=1173462508431&itemNo=5&In=Fish&N=2030044&Ne=2

a circular airstone seems like it would distribute the air more consistently although the 3" diameter might be a problem.

WELL= I BUILT THIS THING= ALL I AM GETTING IS LITTLE BUBBLES IN THE POWDER, NO POWDER DUST AT ALL, I HAVE USED TWO DIFFERENT COFFEE FILTERS= SAME THING= MY FILTER IS FOR A 20 TO 60 GAL TANK IS THIS TO SMALL?  :-/

You shouldn't be getting dust or bubbles for that matter, might be to much air? All you want to see is for the consistancy of the powder to turn almost liquid if you are stirring it with a small wire or spoon. Slowly add air and stir and you will see what I mean.

OK, I WAS EXPECTING A CLOUD OF DUST. I WILL TRY THIS AGAIN BUT I THINK IT WILL PUT MORE PAINT ON THAN I WANT, I HAVE BEEN SIFTING WITH A TEA STRAINER AND IT DOESN'T FILL THE EYE OR WEED GUARD HOLE. LITTLE MESSY THOUGH. ))))))))))))))))))

IT'S LIKE A LITTLE BOWL MADE OF SCREEN. FOR STRAINING TEA. I GOT MINE AT AN OLD HARDWARE STORE. IT SEPERATES IN THE MIDDLE AND YOU PUT THE POWDER IN AND THEN TAP IT OVER A HOT JIG. THIS KEEPS THE PAINT FROM RUNNING WHEN YOU BAKE IT.

LIKE I SAID A LITTLE MESSY BUT IT WORKS GOOD.

HOPE THIS WORKS=  THIS IS THE LITTLE TEA STRAINER I USED AND A COUPLE JIGS, I TAPED ONE SIDE OF THE STRAINER TO PUT THE POWDER IN, SOME POWDER LIKE RED IS SO THIN IT GOES RIGHT THROUGH.THE JIG COLORS I MIXED TO MATCHWHAT EVER I AM DOING AT THE TIME. I MIGHT HAVE TO DO ANOTHER PIC I DON'T KNOW IF THIS BIG ENOUGH.

looks like you should just use a salt shaker.

So does the fluid bath just keep the paint soft like when you shake the bottle, or does it mist it up in the air inside the tube.

Thanks Fedxpress

YOUR RIGHT, THE BED JUST KEEPS IT SOFT. I GUESS IT'S OK I JUST THINK SIFTING WORKS BETTER. SALT AND PEPPER SHAKER HOLES WOULD BE TO LARGE.  I GOT SOME CLEAR PLASTIC CONTAINERS AT THE $ STORE YESTERDAY IT WON'T BE SO MESSY RECOVERING THE LEFT OVER PAINT NOW.
