NJBassin1997 Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 I thinking about getting either a Lew's or a Shimano citica. Just wanted to here any opinions on which one I should get. Thanks Quote
mjseverson24 Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 you can get the Lews BB1 at TW for the same price as the citica, and it is a better reel IMO. otherwise the Lews tournament MG is a good reel for a similar price tag and I again think it out performs the citica. Big thing for me is the handle on the lews is quite a bit better, but the cast control on the citica is pretty nice (set and forget). honestly though if I were looking at a reel in that price range I would get the Tatula on an auction site for under 105.00 that in my opinion is the best deal out there. cant go wrong with any of them though... Delaware Valley Tackle Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 It come down to features, feel and deal. None is head and shoulders better or worse than the others. 1 Quote

SenkoGuru Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 I would have to agree that the Daiwa Tatula is by far a better reel than both of those. 1 Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Look for a used 200e. Best reel I've ever used Quote
GoDeep Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I would have to agree that the Daiwa Tatula is by far a better reel than both of those. I'm with you on that. If you look hard enough, you can find them for around $90 shipped. That is an absolute steel for the quality and performance packed into that reel. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted September 17, 2014 Super User Posted September 17, 2014 I have a Citica and it is a good basic reel. It gets the job done with no complaints. On the other hand Lews has proven to be a good reel as well. It just boils down to putting one of each in your hand and see which one feels best. Quote
JGBassinAL Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I am a Shimano guy thru and thru, but I agree with the posts above. If I were picking between a Shimano Citica and a Lew's reel at the same price point, I would pick the Lews. Also, I agree that the Tatula is leaps and bounds better than the Citica or any Lew's reel at that price point. I owned a Tatula and a Type R, and while I sold them because I prefer Shimano (and am OCD so all of my reels have to be the same brand) I would go with a Tatula if I were you. Heck, you can get a Tatula Type R for $130 from Sportsman's Outfitters. 1 Quote
Cgrinder Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 It depends on your budget. If you want to spend $90-100, buy a Tatula. If you can swing around $150, the Curado I is an option. As for Lews, we should see what the new Tournament Lite can be had for price-wise once it's widely available. Quote

timsford Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 If its between the citica g or lews id go with the lews. I like my tatula better than either but definitely lews out of those two. You can get a bb1, a tournament mg, or a speed spool for that price. A tatula r can be found for around the msrp of the citica as well. You might look into used reels as well ive seen several tournament pros and bb1 pros go for around 110. I started buying used and haven't looked back Quote
ColdSVT Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 If you look you can find a lews tourny pro for just alittle more than a citica I have a citica e and i really like it. Doesnt hold a candle to my lews tourny pro though. And i got the TP for 150 compared to the 129 for the citica. I would take the E over the speel spool, and tourny mg however i would take the tourny mg over the G citica but only by a small margin Quote
