BigSkyBasser Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I'm nearing the end of my research shopping for a new casting real and the competitor running against the Shimano Chronarch C14+ and the Daiwa Tatula is the new Pflueger Patriarch. Granted it cannot cast effectively as far as the aforementioned gear but has awesome reviews, blew up icast, and also boasts some really nice components and features for the price. Anyone have experience with this new real, and or comments? Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 How do you know it can't cast as far as the other two if you've never used them? Lol Quote
jonnyblazex Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 It is one awesome reel. I wouldn't be afraid to try one, actually I have, and it is sweet, and can be had a LOT cheaper than the chronarch ci4, but maybe $30 more than the tatula, but I guarantee it would last longer that that plastic daiwa will 1 Quote
Djman72 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I've always been a huge fan of Pflueger spinning gear and I finally bought a Pflueger baitcaster (patriarch). I couldn't be happier with it. The real is as smooth as anything i've used, and I throw everything I have on it.Great drag system. I've even been able to chuck a few weightless t rigged baits without any hang ups. I would recommend the reel to anyone. I've never had another high end baitcaster reel so I can't speak to those, but this reel has been nothing but gold for me. Also landed my PR with this reel! Quote

Hogsticker Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 That's funny. Wouldn't be afraid to try one. Oh wait, that's right, I already have! Sounds more like a knock on Daiwa. I'm sure the P has just as much plastic inside. 2 Quote
BigSkyBasser Posted September 10, 2014 Author Posted September 10, 2014 Glad to hear it, I see all of this positive feedback from it everywhere else. Just looking for some confirmation. I'll have to demo it at TW then throw it in the shopping cart. Also.......any recommendations for good rod pairings if I wanted to use it primarily as a worming rod that could handling tossing spinners too? Quote
jonnyblazex Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 St croix legend tournament bass in a medium or medium heavy makes for one hell of a combo. It would also pair good with a fenwick aetos IMO, that's what I have mine on. Quote
TheMightyQuinn Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 I have owned many "high end" Shimano reel, (though not the C14)and I've gotta say my old silver Patriarch can outperform them all. It was just as smooth as my Curado E, AND it would out cast it. For me, a dual braking system just seems to work better. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted September 11, 2014 Super User Posted September 11, 2014 The ci4 will stand head and shoulders over those other two reels. If you can afford it, go for it. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted September 11, 2014 Super User Posted September 11, 2014 I don't have the standard Patriarch, but do have 2 of the discontinued XTs. Also had 2 Trions. They both perform very well. The XT will handle some light baits with ease while the Trion is better suited for wights a bit heavier given its heavier spool. Mike cleaned both of my Trions and I feel they are very smooth reels...especially considering their price. They will launch a 1/2 oz. jig with small trailer a fair distance. The XT handled a 10" worm on a 3/0 hook nearly as well as my brother-in-law's spinning rods. Pflueger baitcast reels don't get near the love they deserve, IMHO. EDIT: I've never used the C14, but seriously doubt it is head and shoulders above the standard Patriarch. It should be a little better given its price. I love my Curado 51Es, but are they head and shoulders above other reels? Nope. Love my Alphas reels as well, and my older gold Carbonlites are no slouches either My Chronarch 100B is one fine reel. Will it demolish the Trion in casting distance and smoothness? Not that I can see. Is it better built? Definitely should be with the price difference. 10 years down the road the 100B will still be going. Not sure about the Trion, but we aren't talking apples to apples here. You often do get what you pay for when it comes to longevity. Quote
TorqueConverter Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I wouldn't get too caught up in the reviews. The reel is a rebadged Doyo but so is a Lews and just about everybody else bar Daiwa and Shimano. I'm sure it's nice but I'd rather get two Tatulas for $200 or one of those *** reels. Quote
PersicoTrotaVA Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I haven't used the Patriarch but I do have 2 Supremes(6.4:1 and 5.4:1) and I think they are great reels. I love my Pflueger spinning reels, I have been using them for years so getting a baitcaster was only natural for me. I think Pflueger makes great reels for the price. My only gripe for the Supremes is the magnetic brake knob is small and tight, really hard to turn when the reel is new. It's a little easier now but it's still a pain. Quote
OperationEagle Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Was out with my Patriarch this morn and thought of this thread. It is a solid and smooth reel. It is probably one of the undervalued brands out there. If you find a reel like this on sale, be confident in knowing you are getting a great workhorse for the money. Quote

Yeah, the Rodney Dangerfield of baitcast reels. Quote
