Super User bigbill Posted September 8, 2014 Super User Posted September 8, 2014 Well there goes another chance of landing a big gal. My son showed up and said were going bass fishing. I grabbed any rod setup and tackle box. I was casting the mud dog lure by river to sea. I had a hit and couldn't hang on to her. Finally she left. I had a 7'2" med/lt rod. I grabbed the wrong rod setup. There's no upper hook setting strength. Well it's probably me being still weak too from my illness. But I lost another one. I casted in the shaded area from the trees. That's fishing. My lower back has spinal stenosis I'm in pain all the time. After going fishing and making 100 casts my lower back pain was gone for a while. Exercise? 1 Quote

Super User geo g Posted September 9, 2014 Super User Posted September 9, 2014 I hope you get some relief from the discomfort. It certainly make everything more difficult. Good luck! Quote
Super User Raul Posted September 9, 2014 Super User Posted September 9, 2014 You ain't gonna get nice comforting words from me, the problem is that most don't know how to set the hook properly unless you have a pool cue stiff rod and rope thick line. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted September 9, 2014 Author Super User Posted September 9, 2014 I'm up to a pb of 10lbs. The state record is 12lbs 4oz. I lost four bigger bass now. I was at one spot that's a 4' bank above the water. I watched a whale of a bass turn and hit my topwater lure so violent 1/3 of her back was out of the water. I set the hook, had the rod up as high as I could to hold her head up but it was a very long cast and she knew to dive down in the weeds. My buddy had her on the line once too and for 20 minutes he tried to horse her up but his line and rod snapped. I was at another place where I have a 6lber in my hands and a bigger bass swims by me at the drop off. I fish for fun. But the bigger ones find me. So I need to get more violent on the hook set? Super User Sam Posted September 9, 2014 Super User Posted September 9, 2014 Big Bill, my wife has had two neck, ten back and three hip surgeries so I know what you are going through with your back. She has the stenosis also, and we have seen her spinal column deteriorate over the past 15 years. There is a back surgeon in Charlottesville at the UVA Health Center that specializes in the lower spinal cord but so far she has refused to see him for a second opinion. The surgeries are bad enough but the rehab is awful. So if you can do some exercises with your doctor's approval you may have some relief. How about swimming? Good exercise and weightless on your body. As for losing the big lady, the guys are right...she is still there, laughing at you. You better go back and nail her fanny before winter sets in. Quote
einscodek Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Lots of us lost big bass.. pb kind.. heart dropping into stomach feeling in hindsight shouldve done this or that shouldve not messed around etc.. did I check the line d**n shouldve checked that before.. etc keep the hooks super-sharp keep the lines tight and keep lady luck happy its all you can do it is what it is there'll be another day Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 If I fished where there are ten pounders, I would make sure I had the right equipment to handle it. 2 Quote

Put the M/Lt in the garage. You are tangled up with heavier fish on a regular basis on long lines. I could live with that. Quote
