t4bama Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Would you buy one if you could get it for 100$? Quote
SenkoGuru Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Heck, I would buy one at $159.00. You're talking about one of the best rods made. The answer is 100% yes, buy it. If you can get it for $100 you just got one hell of a great deal. Let me know where you're buying them for $100.00 in a PM so I can buy 5 or 8 for myself. thanks Quote
t4bama Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 So.... I need to pick up a couple huh lol 1 Quote
SenkoGuru Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Just be sure it is a Micro Magic and not the Ghost Rods. The Duckett Ghost rods are always priced at $99.00 1 Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted September 8, 2014 Super User Posted September 8, 2014 Just be sure it is a Micro Magic and not the Ghost Rods. The Duckett Ghost rods are always priced at $99.00 I had 2 of the Micro Magic's but had to get rid of them. Well, not rid of them. I gave them to my son, and he loves em. One of the lightest rods around. I just couldn't handle those micro guides. To tiny for my old eyes...lol. Without revealing how old my eyes are, my son just turned fifty. He's one happy camper with those Ducketts. Hootie 1 Quote
5fishlimit Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 They are a really good rod for $150. Amazing at $100. Are you sure you're not getting the Ghost for $100? Quote
t4bama Posted September 9, 2014 Author Posted September 9, 2014 Very sure its not a ghost the local store is getting rid or discounting to make room for the new Duckett rods. Quote
TrapperJ Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Thats what i been waiting on the new Micro Magics, i went new, but man if the olds start going on sale it will be hard to pass up! Whats the word on when they will start selling the new? Quote
t4bama Posted September 9, 2014 Author Posted September 9, 2014 I have a love hate with Micro Magic. Hate the micro guides but love the rod. Now that I have tried something new I know to keep to the regular guides. Is it you hate the micro guides for as running your line threw them or what? Quote
t4bama Posted September 9, 2014 Author Posted September 9, 2014 Yeah that dog-weed fuzzy crap is bad....lol Seems like the Ducketts have the smallest micro guides of any rod. Quote
chris55552 Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 I called Duckett fishing two weeks ago and they said the micro magic pros will be out in October. I could not wait..I bougt a micro magic 2 weeks ago and I just couldn't be happier with this rod. Its very sensitive, light, has good warranty and customer service and just feels perfect in my hands. Trust me the last 6 months Ive extensively researched the rod market a good rod, and I ended up buying a micro magic. I was considering a ghost, its a good rod but for a little more the micro magic is just awesome. The thing that impresses me the most with the micro magic is the increased casting ability and increased smoothness from the guides (alconite guides). Im completely sold on Duckett rods, they are a great buy. Quote
OntarioFishingGuy Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I have a love hate with Micro Magic. Hate the micro guides but love the rod. Now that I have tried something new I know to keep to the regular guides. They have a model with regular guides called 'macro magic'. Quote
JGBassinAL Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I would love to throw my 2 cents into the pot on how much I DO NOT like Duckett rods but I don't want to beat a dead horse. Heck, Timmy Horton lives half a mile from me and I still don't use Ducketts, and he helped put them on the map! But if you come to my area and check out all the boats at a tournament, it looks like a freakin snowstorm. I just want to say one thing. I was told from someone AT DUCKETT, that it costs $9 to manufacture each micro magic. All praises to Boyd for makin a killin, but Ducketts just don't scratch my itch, broke too many. EDIT: I did have one Duckett that I liked. It was a baby blue White Ice which I am sure most of you have never even seen or heard about. It was the first run at the Duckett White Ice line. I liked it...until it snapped on a hook set, just like a bunch of my other Ducketts I had in the past. And no, I am not hard on my equipment. I have 15 setups now, all customs. Had them all for almost a year and haven't had one break yet. Quote
coak Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Why doesn't Duckett list the specs or range on their rods as far a power rating, lure rating, line rating, etc? Quote
Alpha Male Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Why doesn't Duckett list the specs or range on their rods as far a power rating, lure rating, line rating, etc? And This is why I will never buy a duckett rod! I will saw right off the bat that I have never used a duckett and I wont lose any sleep over it. Not putting a specific action on the rod to let your customers know what type of rod to expect is ridiculous for any rod over $70. I expect it on a house brand rod from $30-$60 Cabelas, Gndr Mtn, or BPS but for $160 I can get a Pinnacle Perfecta, Fenwick, St, Croix, or any number of better rods that will tell me a Power, Action, Line, and Lure rating. Granted they are not the same between companies but lets face we all have brand loyalty to some extent and know what to expect from a power and action from our rods. Quote
JGBassinAL Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Coak, Idk why they do this but I would never buy a rod based on it's specs anyways. I have done that before and the rod wasn't what I was looking for. The main reason I wouldn't go by them is because each manufacturer MH/Fast rod for example is going to have a little different taper, power, etc. Same thing with technique specific rods, I find that info useless. Best thing to do is go handle the rods to see if it fits what you want to do with it. Also, just cause a rod says it can handle a 1 oz bait doesn't mean it actually can. Just another reason I render specs of rods useless. Quote
kikstand454 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I'm always so confused about this. I buy cheap stuff. The most expensive rod I own is my 7'6" crucial which was 169 at the time and it was a Xmas present from the inlaws. I have mostly shimano convergence, clarus and Abu veritas rods. I also have some berkley lightening rods I use inshore, as well as some super cheap field and stream inferno's II've been testing inshore in the kayak. I haven't broken a rod- especially on a fish- since I was like 10. I'm 39. I fish 4-5 times month. Fresh and salt. What the hell do you people do to your rods? ! I liked the micro magic when I handled it in the store. It was great. I had the chance to fish a ghost for a few minutes. .... really liked it as well. You can do ALOT worse for he money .... Quote

Like I said I have 15 customs now that I've had for a year and haven't broken a single one. I have used so many different rods and the only ones I have ever broken are Ducketts. I'll tell you how one of them broke, and you tell me if it was user error. I was throwing a light a-rig on the 7'11" Heavy White Ice made for medium to large swimbaits. I casted it and the blank broke in half right above the reel seat. What do I do to my rods? Nothing. I keep them in rod socks if they are in the rod locker or out of my boat. I also don't keep a lot of rods on my deck so I definitely don't step on them. This is why I don't like Duckett rods. I treat my rods with the utmost of care and I have still had them break. I couldn't even begin to tell you how many I have seen break as well while fishing with other people. If I hadn't had bad experiences with them, I would probably like them. I think they are decent sticks for the price, but quality control on these rods is horrific. I'm about to post a pic of an offset guide on one of the rods I got straight from Duckett. 1 Quote
JGBassinAL Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 How does this make it out of the factory? Quality control at its finest. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted September 10, 2014 Super User Posted September 10, 2014 How does this make it out of the factory? Quality control at its finest. d**n, that's bad. I haven't seen guides that out of line since the last time I looked at a Skeet Reese rod. 1 Quote

Super User F14A-B Posted September 10, 2014 Super User Posted September 10, 2014 About beating a dead horse, the rods are a joke, I have seen hoards of these rods returned and it's pathetic I mean pathetic, 2 things.... Boyd & carrot stix.... Boyd & the White Carrot stix.... So what's really different.... Nothing but color... They are junk. It's a shame too, so many people seem to revel in them.... But the breakage, poor rod build, and cork falling off.... Did I say pathetic ? What a rip off rod co. 1 Quote
SenkoGuru Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Well, each one of us has our favorite company's and ANY rod can break. The local boat marina store here quit selling Dobyn's rods because he was sick to death of replacing all of the broken rod's. (any one wanting to call the store and ask the owner can PM me for the store name, The owner will tell what a nightmare of broken rod's) I'm sure that doesn't make any one not want a Dobyn's though, just as any other rod, they can and do break. The Duckett Rod's have a 20 year warranty and they stand behind that so I would say they believe in their rods. Also you're saying that the Duckett rods are nothing more than a carrot stick? OK, so that would mean a Dobyn's is nothing more than a Powell Max rod too then right? If you skip out on Duckett rods, you may be missing the best fishing rod you would have ever owned. The rods are well worth the money and some of the best on the market but you need to decide that for yourself, do not take my opinion that they are really great and do not take the other guys opinion that they are super bad, make that decision for yourself and just enjoy Bass fishing. Super User *Hootie Posted September 10, 2014 Super User Posted September 10, 2014 I have used every kind of rod, from $29. Ugly Stiks, $35. BPS graphite series, to now G loomis rods. I am now an avid Loomis fan. Ironically, the only rod I have ever broken was a loomis imx. ANY rod can break and ANYONE can have it happen. Hootie 3 Quote

Most rods now are manufactured in China so you know the labor is cheap and another rod I've heard about the price to make one is Kistler rods is about 9 bucks a rod. I've never broke a rod setting the hook or casting closing the rod locker yes putting my knee on a rod to land a fish yes both hurt but stuff happens, too each his own. Quote
