Those are four great trailers, I like to just match the color of the skirt to the trailer but experiment and find out what works for you! My friend likes to use a green pumpkin trailer on a black jig and he does fine...

Black, Uncle Josh #11 Pork Frog.    99% of the time I'm throwing a jig, which is a lot,  that's whats on the back.

1/2 oz arky jig with Uncle Josh #11. Thread a 1 inch piece of worm (I use my old discarded ones) up on the hook shank first.. then slide on your #11. This keeps your pork from sliding up onto your hook point and adds some color and buoyancy.

I absolutely love fishing jigs. They catch big fish. I like to fish a black jig with a black # 11 pork but switch to a size # 1 pork later in the summer.  I also have very good luck on a brown/orange jig with a crawdad # 11 pork. At time I have better luck with a plastic trailer. If that is the case I use a rage craw as my trailer or a pit boss. I like Stanley casting jigs and chompers brush jig from 3/16- 3/4 ounce but most of the time I am fishing a 1/2 ounce. Seems from my experience that jig trailers with more action work better during warmer months of the year and the pork frogs when it is colder.

The site sponsors are Siebert Outdoors and NorthStar for jigs, RageTail for trailers, therefor the majority of replies reflect those products and all 3 are excellent.

We have a lot jig anglers here to advise you, can get confusing.

What tackle do you plan yo use and presentations? There are at least a dozen different jig types from the Arlie jig & pig, stand ups, footballs, round heads, darts, fish heads, etc,etc.

Color choices are usually regional with black/blue combination being #1 with BR members, green pumpkin and P&J with Alabama craw color trailer #2 or #3.

As for jigs, I recommend Siebert Outdoors ( the finest hand made ) any color is fine as long as it´s black, for trailers any trailer is fine as long as it´s a Brush Hog and any color is fine as long as it is Midnight Chartreuse.

Pepperjigs from pepperjigs.com. I like pumpkin green flake (green pumpkin), black blue, and clear lake special (a brown orange). I use matching rage chunk or paca chunk trailers. Catch tons of bass on all of them.

*** jigs with Excite Raptor tail chunks, SK Rage Craws, SK Structure Bugs, or Missile Baits D Bomb. Beware of the Rage baits. They catch fish but the durability stinks.

honestly siebert outdoors is the best source for jigs. I have jigs from him I have fished all year and the hooks are still sharp, the powder coat is chip free, and skirts still in place due to the wire tie

Rage plastics don't have the best durability but buy some mend it and the way they catch fish is more than worth it.

Well, I have never caught a fish on a jig. I am still trying though. Just can't figure it out.

I keep it simple and cheap 3/8 arkie jig black and blue with a zoom ultra vibe speed craw in scuppernong.they last about 20 fish then i just keep on fishing them without skirts .and still keep catching fish.

I'm definitely gonna have to try some of these. I throw jigs probably 90% of the time and I don't have a single jig that the paint hasn't come off of the head. Although, I really only drag jigs over rocks and shell beds so I don't know if I'll ever find one that the paint doesn't come off the head. I really have never noticed where the jig head color matters, as I have some that are beat to death and still catch quality fish, but then again I am pretty OCD about stuff like that. BTW, I use watermelon if it is sunny and green pumpkin if it is overcast. Mix in a little black and blue when its overcast as well but you can't beat watermelon or green pumpkin. Heck, Casey Ashley throws a green pumpkin jig 99% of the time and he's one of the best anglers out there. I'll also tell you a little secret: Netbait Paca Chunk in Magic Craw is the best trailer ever, just ordered 10 packs off ***. The only bait that I buy in bulk

My recommendation: Siebert Outdoors 3/8 Dredge Brush Jig in Blue Craw with a green pumpkin craw trailer.

I was in your shoes not long ago. I took the advice of others and ordered a Drege Jig 5 pack from Siebert in order to get a few of the most popular colors.

Initially, I had no idea what would work best for my lake but by trying out a number of different jig colors, I have developed a pretty intense confidence in the Blue Craw colored jigs. I have not tried NorthStar yet and I have not found a brand available in store that measures up the quality and price of Siebert's jigs.

Though I think they are great trailers, I don't usually fish with the Rage Tail products unless the fishing is really tough. I primarily stick with either Zoom or Yum for my trailer due to price and general durability.
