Storing Soft Plastics

Hey guys I was just wondering, how do you guys store your soft plastics? Is it bad to store them out of the bag and just in a Plano box?

I used to separate them into different categories by placing them in 1 gallon Ziploc's. This summer I fished with a gentleman who removes them from the original packaging and keeps them in 3700 boxes. This proved to be a more efficient way of storing and accessing them, than what I have been doing. I also inquired about them drying out. He informed me that this has been his storage method for the past eight or 10 years, and has yet to have any negative results. However, you don't want to mix any of the ElaZtech baits with standard plastics as they will melt them. Also, the Gulp Alive products will dry out if they are removed from the solution.

I also use the same hangers that the sotors use for chips, peanuts, ect. under my front tackle storage lids.

I just keep mine all in the original packaging and throw whichever ones I think I might use for the day in my tackle bag, usually 2-3 colors of senkos (1-2 bags each) some grubs and chunks for jig trailers, 2 colors of flukes, 1 bag of trick worms, 2 packs of craws or creatures and a pack of tubes or hula grubs. I uses to bring all of my soft plastics but it was a pain sifting through everything to find the senko color I wanted.

They make little binders for storing & organizing soft plastics. I've become a big fan of them. Here's an example:

I store what I "need" for a little while in plano boxes, and keep my extras and stuff not in the regular rotation in the packages they came in, in a tote off the boat. I restock the boxes as needed, I find it much easier than having to sort through bag after bag of stuff to find what I need.

I've gone through a lot of different methods for storing soft plastics. From original bags in gallon ziplocs, to original bags in Bass Pro worm bags, to combinations of those in totes, to 3600 size boxes (I use Bass Pro boxes mostly) for this.

 

I've been sticking to the boxes for a while now. It has been the most efficient method thus far. Like ww2farmer, stuff not in the rotation, or extras are stored in a tote(s).

 

On my yak, I take about 5 boxes, primarily use 3 of them stocked with 4 & 5-inch senkos, trick worms, and a third with finesse worms, minnows.

 

Then I use a small, double-sided box for all my terminal tackle, as well as a plano line holder (6 spools).
