Balshy Fishing Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 So, I used to use the Rage Craw's back in April and caught a few walleye on them and recently picked some more up. I got summer craw but for the life of me--I can't remember how I had them rigged for success. I have the siebert outdoor weighted hooks for them with the screwlock but obviously they don't sit straight up. I tried using a shakey head but I didn't get any bites on that. What's the best hook to use on these? Also, what colors do you guys have success with? Quote
ABW Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 I like to texas rig them. 3/0 EWG with a 3/16 or 1/8 oz bullet weight. 3 Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 21, 2014 Super User Posted August 21, 2014 Not having succes when you did what you did just means that, you didn´t have succes that way at that time ( rigging the bait on a shakeyhead jig ), such can change in a few hours or in a few days. The bait doesn´t need to sit straight up, and since it´s not a floating bait it won´t do it. As for what hooks, that depends a lot on what kind of rigging method you will be using and the bait size, for the regular sized craw I choose a 3/0-4/0, which can be a EWG or a weighted hook, also I use a 3/0 weedless dropshot hook for Neko or nose hooked rig. Balshy Fishing Posted August 21, 2014 Author Posted August 21, 2014 So you throw it out and let it sink, and then what? Either drag or pop it up and down ? Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 21, 2014 Super User Posted August 21, 2014 So you throw it out and let it sink, and then what? Either drag or pop it up and down ? My man, there is no straighforward answer to your question, when it comes to fishing techniques there´s no white or black, everything is gray, for example, when I nose hook the craw most if the times I crawl it, ( crawling is not draging ) I let it sink and once it´s on the bottom I lift my rod and stitch with it while I slowy reel in steadily, once the tip reaches the 12 o´clock position, I lower the rod tip and crawl it agan, for example when Neko rigging the bait I let it sink and once it hits the bottom I lift the rod and reel in the slack until I know the bait is standing up, once it´s standing up I crawl it or shake the rod or start popping it or a mix, a few ft one way a few ft another way and so on. What tells you that you are doing things right is that, assuming you are fishng the right place, you begin to catch fish. 1 Quote
Balshy Fishing Posted August 21, 2014 Author Posted August 21, 2014 Appreciate it brother, I never even considered nose hooking a craw. I might give that a try. Quote
Balshy Fishing Posted August 21, 2014 Author Posted August 21, 2014 Just looked up that Neko rig too, seems pretty sweet. How do you go about picking the right nail weight? Quote
Lip 'em! Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 My favorite way to rig a rage craw is on a shakey head. The other way i most often use them is as a jig trailer. The 2 colors i always have with me are green pumpkin and black with blue flake. Occasionally bama craw or pb&j will get thrown in the mix. Amazing action!! My favorite craw type bait by far! And who cares if they dont last as long as other lures as long as im catching fish i will continue to buy them! Quote

Super User Catch and Grease Posted August 22, 2014 Super User Posted August 22, 2014 I Texas rig them with a 4/0 EWG or fish them weightless as top waters mostly, My favorite colors are green pumpkin and that black/blue flake color. Quote
Balshy Fishing Posted August 22, 2014 Author Posted August 22, 2014 See, that black & blue color caught me some fish but I don't know. I guess I gotta' Quote
