Lessons Learned While Driving

1.. No matter how many cars you pass, there will always be someone in front of you. There is no front of the line. So just relax. you'll get there.

2..Just because your light has turned green, don't just jump out there. Because after the other light has turned red,

the next three to five cars are coming on through...at least in Cincinnati.

3..And the biggest one, you can never drive fast enough for the car behind you. Remember, he's looking for the front of the line.

I heartily agree with you. During my 2nd night shift the other night we had a girl "reach down to get her phone" at 0300 which resulted in her drifting towards the oncoming lane where she hit the island divider, took out two traffic poles and the undercarriage of her car, including oil pan & gas tank. Luckily she wasn't hurt and our Hazmat truck had 'plenty' of speedy-dry.

Mr Swindle passes on an interesting diving maneuver he calls "the Romp & Stomp". 

 

May be something new to some but not exactly new to the urban residence.

I drive in Miami everyday also and its survival of the fittest. I take a vacation outside of South FL, and where ever I drive I find myself driving aggressive, it takes me a little while to acclimate myself in the new non-aggressive environment and relax. LOL...

*Hootie I agree with all three points. Number two is certainly also true in the greater St.Louis area. As I get older and in less of a hurry l am much more likely to slow a bit so the €£¥₩% behind me who is desperate to find the front of the line can pass. I would rather the knot-head be in front of me than trying to drive into the bed of my truck.

I am 100% retired and usually have no place to go in a hurry. I was a salesman for 40 years and put on 35k-40k miles a year. The biggest change I saw the last few years before I retired (6 years ago) was the distracted driving due to cell phones. Now we have texting too. I let em go by me and also catch hell from my wife for it. I set the cruse at 65 and let em rip.

Yeah distracted drivers are all over the place, good thing she was ok.

I don't know how you do it lol, I only drive down here for work. Hell they won't even move over or slow down when I'm running lights and sirens somewhere. And I completely agree with you as far as driving somewhere outside of South Florida, they actually drive with manners and aren't animals lol when I lived in Indiana the opposite side traffic would stop for emergency vehicles and I would sit there like wow that actually happens.

Had a run in with a lady looking for the front of the line today. Cut me off, twice, before she got stuck behind a truck that was turning that she didn't notice until she had to slam on her brakes to avoid running into him. I maintained my normal slow and steady speed and ended up a couple cars ahead of her getting onto the interstate before she blew my doors off.

This was a typical conversation when I started driving. Me: whistling, all relaxed, just cruising, taking it in. Mom: quit looking at the girls, watch the road. Me: I wasn't I'm just observing my surroundings so I can react accordingly. Mom: "silence"
