doyle8218 Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 For those that use braid with no leader. I am looking to replace my spinning reel with new braid. I don't want to use a leader. I am wondering what color do you use for best invisibility without a leader. I am guessing some type of green but am also curious about these camo lines It will be a thin line maybe 20lb. Any thoughts? Quote
Enphrared Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I use the timber brown super slicks, 15#. Fish don't seem to care cuz I keep pulling them in. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I ignore invisibility to the fish and stress visibility for myself. I'm going to almost all hi-vis. If it gives you confidence, color the bottom few feet with a sharpie. If the water is gin clear and open, I'll tie a fluoro leader sometimes. 4 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted August 14, 2014 Super User Posted August 14, 2014 *2 for the sharpie, I use aqua green superslick power pro and the dark color of the normal power pro... Quote
doyle8218 Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 *2 for the sharpie, I use aqua green superslick power pro and the dark color of the normal power pro... I was thinking along that line and thought the brake up up the suffix 832 camo line would achieve that same result. Quote
Capt.Bob Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I believe you are on the right track, 832 is the best braid I have found, I have it on over 20 reels, spinning and baitcasting, although I always use a leader, it is up to the user, all mine are Ghost or Camo, and I don't use them for invisibility. I have found 832 to bleed color less than any other braid I tried, just another advantage among many I have found using this line. Ghost is of course no bleed and the Camo is unnoticed, I am sure it does but the only way I can detect it with the reels using Camo is after a month or two of steady use I can tell the line is lighter. 1 Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted August 14, 2014 Super User Posted August 14, 2014 I've only tried one camo colored line and it was Spider Wire. Definitely not doing that again. The problem with it is the base line color is that of the lightest color and the other colors wore off very quickly so you were left with the least desirable color in the water. You can color it with a sharpie, but I'd just as soon do that with my normal pick of dark green. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted August 14, 2014 Super User Posted August 14, 2014 I've tried the camo colored Suffix 832. If the water has any clarity to it at all, it sticks out like a sore thumb. I prefer the standard "moss green" type color. Quote

The dark green 832 went from green to almost white within a few outings for me. Happened with all 3 spools I have. Also to answer the OP I use both 20lb power pro and 832 on my spinning reels. Red, green, yellow, bass don't really seem to care Quote
Capt.Bob Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 The dark green 832 went from green to almost white within a few outings for me. Happened with all 3 spools I have. Exactly why I stay away from the green, don't know if it would show up on the equipment or my hand like most other brands, but I could care less the color in the water like you said, don't seem to matter. But I do use mono or fluoro leaders for everything like I said. Plus with the 832 in Camo and Ghost, (all I've used) I have never noticed this and why I use them. Is the green as bad as Power pro and others showing up on equipment and your hands, or just notice it loosing color on the spool?? Quote
papajoe222 Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I, too, don't concern myself with line visibility when using braid. I'd venture to say smoke or green braid, the thinner the better for most applications, but if watching your line is a key factor in the presentations you'll be using go with something high viz and break up the the color with a green or black sharpie every few inces for aka foot or so above the line tie. doyle8218 Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 Thanks folks - I am leaning toward a white or ghost and a black sharpie based on the info. Quote
Mike2841 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Capt bob the green 832 lost color a lot faster than my PP (regular don't have much experience with slick). Had a green thumb for about a day then the line turned almost white. Just spooled up some sunline fx2, so far I like it but I don't see any real advantage over PP Quote

bass1980 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 This year I've been experimenting with High vis yellow 20lb braid on my weightless senko setup and I don't see a difference with not tying a flouro leader. I still catch them as much as my buddies that uses only flouro. Maybe different waters and fish in different parts of the country is more line shy but up north it doesn't seem like they care when they see that Yama wiggling down. 1 Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted August 15, 2014 Super User Posted August 15, 2014 The only time I don't use a leader is when I get broke off and have no leader with me, I travel light. Never found that braid direct increased or decreased my catch. I do use leaders because it's much easier to untangle from a treble hook, braid can be a pita. Quote
jiggz125 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Dark green both in PowerPro and Suffix 832 have seemed to work fine for me this year. Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted August 15, 2014 Super User Posted August 15, 2014 Sunline SX1 is not only great line but it stays pretty darn dark green too. Quote

papajoe222 Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 I've been using Kanzen Premium Braid from Seaguar for most of this season and haven't run into color fading the way the Suffix does, but because I'm not concerned with visibility, it isn't much of a factor for me. Quote
