Squirmin Wormin Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 This goes to what do you think , and is kinda the question . Did you plan that day when you caught your pb bass to happen or just did, I myself didn't , sure i know there's plenty of fish in the lakes , ponds ,or any body of water you get to know ,but that one day just pulled out that black and yellow spinner bait and very first cast the pb bass that i caught instantaneously smashed it with out knowing at first what i had .Did not plan it. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 7, 2014 Global Moderator Posted August 7, 2014 I planned months in advance the trip that I caught my PB largemouth on. All 3 smallmouths that I've caught that tied for my PB were all just the fruit of hard work and hours put in on the water. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 7, 2014 Super User Posted August 7, 2014 On the day I caught my PB it was 75 degrees when we got out on the water at 5:30 AM. I caught two bass that day before the heat drove us off of the lake around 10:00 AM. I didn't think we would catch anything since it was so hot out. Quote

Super User geo g Posted August 7, 2014 Super User Posted August 7, 2014 The day I caught my personal best was in Feb. during a tough day of fishing at Loxahatchee. I fished with a good friend and we covered a lot of ground and caught about three small bass all morning. It was 12:00 noon and I went to down sizing to a weightless fluke on a spinning rod with 10 pound mono, my lightlest set up.. We were just about to call it quits, and a giant mouth engulfed the bait close to the bank. It was a struggle getting her through all the vegetation with that light rod and reel. She weighted 11.4 and my personal best. Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 7, 2014 Super User Posted August 7, 2014 The answer is simple, I fish when I can, got my first 10 lber on a: "Yo pal, how ´bout we go wet a line like right now ? " day, got my PB on a trip to San Lorenzo, that trip was planned, what wasn´t planned was me catching my PB on a bait that is not "recommended" for catching the big gals in that lake ( plastic worms and jigs ). RAMBLER Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 I plan on and try to catch my personal best, every time I go out. I am happy to catch anything, though. Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted August 7, 2014 Super User Posted August 7, 2014 It's semantics, to be sure, but my personal best is whatever bass i catch on any given day. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted August 7, 2014 Super User Posted August 7, 2014 My personal best came fishing a big worm at night on Bull Shoals early in the spring. I was very excited, but not at all surprised. I have caught many big fish in similar conditions. All of the lakes I regularly fish have the potential to produce a new best, and I target bigger fish. So like others, I plan to catch a new PB every time I go. I am surprised when I don't! 1 Quote

Super User WRB Posted August 10, 2014 Super User Posted August 10, 2014 Starting in January our big bass begin their annual pre spawn period and depending on weather, water temps this continues until the spawn begins about 3 months. During this time I plan every trip and believe my PB is possible every cast. The odds are in my favor if it's a light rainy day, don't like heavy storms with hard rain and high wind, buy I still go out. I did plan the day, it was forecast to be light rain, 2 days before a full moon, prime time for catching giant bass. My PB ate a jig in 17' about 9:30 in the morning, March 3rd 1993 at lake Castaic. mwh33 Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 I went on a bass fishing trip with my best friend. We went to El Salto where there are plenty big bass so I figured I would be at least close to my previous personal best of 10 lbs. I caught 4 in the 8 lb range and multiple in the 5-6 lb range. On our 3rd day there, I was fishing by a large tree with a 10 inch black and blue power worm Texas rigged and pulled up an 11 pounder. Needless to say I was pretty pumped. I also caught the largest fish of the trip. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted August 11, 2014 Super User Posted August 11, 2014 I'm sure everyone has visions of catching a great fish each time out, I wouldn't call that a plan. IMO one has to go to an area noted of holding very large fish, even still we can't predict whether a 1# or 15# fish is the one that strikes. How many times have missed target by yards, only to have some rogue lunker come up and nail my lure. I attribute my largest fish to luck and being in the right place at the exact moment in time, that I can't plan. Quote
fishva Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 My PB was a complete fluke. It was 11 or so at night. I was fishing for crappie and couldn't see a d**n thing. I let my spinner rest about 3 feet from shore to talk to my friend, and then bam -- the biggest bass I've ever caught. It still feels like cheating, because I didn't have to fight it. I literally bent over and picked it up. Quote
