Do You Ever Feel "lost" Or Uneasy...

...if you have to borrow someone elses gear and lures?  I do-even if they have as much gear or more than I do and they say they have no problem with me borrowing it.  In my minds-eye I know exactly what I want to use and if it isn't there, I feel unsettled.  It takes half the confidence out of my game.

The only time I use other peoples stuff is if I'm fishing with a family member or friend that I know very well... And only fish with it when I'm around them, so when it breaks they know it wasn't my fault

I don't like using other people's gear unless it's one of my good friends. At least they know I will replace what I ruined with something even better. I broke my friends Zebco rod not to long ago so when he gets a new car and I get the money I'm going to buy him a new one from Gander Mountain.

I understand the desire to not use someone's rods/reels.  Rarely if ever do I do that (especially since I use "left-handed" baitcasters).  Let's narrow the borrowed items to just lures (items in their tackle box) and not rods/reels.  How does that change the equation?

Don't let someone borrow a lure that your afraid to lose.... Honestly if they let you use a lure and it gets snagged or bit off and they get angry they shouldnt have let you borrow it.

I would have much less of a problem using a good friend or family member's lure. If I somehow lost it, I would immediately tell them I will replace it, and then make good on that promise.

I also don't mind letting someone use one of my lures (as long as it's not a lucky craft or something else over $10). The risk of them losing it is worth it to me if it helps everyone have a good time, and possibly a more successful outing.

I fish with friends. They can use anything I own without any obligation. I know they respect my gear, but pooh-pooh happens.

As for rods & reels I don't expect a problem, but for lures and baits I bought them to be fished and that means losing a few.

I encourage friends to try some of my jigs with the expectation of losing them, just like I do.

The extent that I touch someone's gear is to check out a different family of reel or feel the weight of a rod I have never held before. Other than that, I will not use someone else's gear. As far as my gear goes, I offer if someone is on my boat, but they must pick up some subliminal vibes because no one even touches my outfits. LOL....

You can borrow my cheap rods/reels, as far as my good gear....Negative. And if I borrow something it'll be replaced if broken.

If you borrow someone else's gear, make sure it can be replaced or don't touch it. If you break it, expect to replace it.

 

I believe the same rule applies to others who borrow my gear though I won't let anyone borrow anything that I can't afford to lose because often times, I don't ask people for the money or lure back.

I always take along an extra rig and leave it in the boat or car.  That way if a reel breaks down I have an extra.

If your partner is throwing a green pumpkin Senko and killing them while I am throwing a watermelon Senko and getting skunked do you ask your partner for some green pumpkins?

 

Same with any bait that is producing for another person and not your self.

 

On the Potomac River during tournaments the guys will pile up on the main river to fish the grass and grass lines.  If one guy lands one with a spinnerbait then everybody changes to a spinnerbait.  If it is a wake bait, then everyone goes to a wake bait.  If it is a trick worm then everyone goes to a trick worm.  It is funny to watch this happen.

 

I have had my clocked cleaned by the guys I was fishing with as I did not have the same color or specific bait.

 

But that's fishing. Frustrating. Upsetting. But that's fishing.

Lures are one thing. I don't care if friends lose plastics and jigs and whatever. I do let a lot of my friends use my rods abs reels but I'm always with them since I am usual the one taking them fishing. I'll give a quick list of don'ts and then we're off catching fish, or trying to at least.
