starcraft1 Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 I'd do the measuring and pics. then send them off to get a repica made. Let them live another day. 2 Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted August 4, 2014 Super User Posted August 4, 2014 I got a replica of mine, and would not hesitate to do so again. They look just as good as a skin mount, and the big girl gets to go back to fight another day. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted August 4, 2014 Super User Posted August 4, 2014 I'd hang a photo of me holding it wearing a big toothy grin and Mother Nature looking over my shoulder. oe 4 Quote
einscodek Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 A really good photo or photos and measurements & weight imo is good enough replica good if yer into that stuff but with those photos if you want a replica made you could at any time she gets to live another day, perhaps have hundreds of babies who grow up big like her and you may get to catch her again or her big babies later on and others like yer kids may get to hook into them as well bringing smiles to more people Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted August 4, 2014 Super User Posted August 4, 2014 CPR, catch photo release. no reason to kill a big girl like that just for the sake of hanging the skin on the wall. the pics and memories are more than enough to remember the day. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted August 4, 2014 Super User Posted August 4, 2014 Unless it's a state record, a nice, printed photo is all I need. 2 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted August 4, 2014 Super User Posted August 4, 2014 I want a bass mounted but I don't want that double digit bass, I just wanna get a really pretty looking 4 or so pounder as a wall piece.... If I caught a huge bass like 10lbs id probably just take some pictures and release, and if I wanted I could get a replica mount whenever I wanted to.... Quote

Hyrule Bass Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 i'd get a skin mount over a replica. and despite what people say, replicas do not look as good or better than skin mounts, replicas look fake as hell like theyre mass produced in some chinese factory, yeah and i know many people dont agree with that, but in my opinion, its the plain old truth... earthworm77 Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 I think it is a better option to get a replica made. I have a fish that was mounted in 1991, it still looks great but I wouldn't get another. I fish with my GoPro all the time, I'd rather save the fish/experience on video. Quote
bassguytom Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I don't think I will ever have that dilemma where I fish. Not to many DD bass here. I'm a pic guy and not even a real camera pic guy. I use my iPhone so I can send it to people. I'd go replica if given the chance. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 5, 2014 Global Moderator Posted August 5, 2014 I have a skin mount of a 6.5lb bass that didn't make it after being hooked deep (was my PB at the time). I'd never get another skin mount unless it was the same circumstances. Skin mounts deteriorate with time and you have to make sure to take care of them or they look terrible after a pretty short amount of time. A good replica will never look mass produced because a good taxidermist will be able to copy the color and pattern of the fish to a T and make it look like it could swim off if you put it in the water. The best part is the fish it was created after is still swimming around waiting to make someone else's day like it made yours Quote
