Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 3, 2014 Global Moderator Posted August 3, 2014 My wife and I had been debating getting our son a life jacket so he could go out in the boat. We have had several days of unseasonably cool weather so we decided to get him one. Supposed to be for kids up to 50lbs but at only 7.5 months Lake had the straps extended as far as they'd go and he still didn't really fit very well. He loves being outside, he wasn't a huge fan of the life jacket however. He did really seem to enjoy while we were cruising along though. Had enough time to make a few cast and he got to meet Mr.Bass for the first time, albeit a very small version We were on the water for about 30 minutes before the combination of the life jacket not fitting well, his teeth hurting, and being tired got the best of him. His big sister had to check on him to make sure he was okay though. Can't wait until he's old enough to go with me. The lake we were on will probably be one of our main destinations as it's a dink factory and loaded with bluegills and sunfish as well. I got out that night and it was flat calm and perfect out. Fishing was a little slow but I still boated 18 and the quality was pretty good. One of my first fish of the night was also my biggest at 4.29lbs on a homemade swinging football head and Ol' Monster. A couple minutes later I caught my second biggest of the night at 3.83lbs on a homemade bladed jig that is showing some serious wear after doing lots of work this summer but still catching like it was new Another solid Ol' Monster fish. This is why I love bladed jigs, they choke those things! Hard to get any leverage to toss a bait when they're stuck like that. I had to leave right as the sun was getting up so I could watch my son but I got a little Slammer fish right before I left. 5 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 4, 2014 Author Global Moderator Posted August 4, 2014 Yeah he's a little ways from being able to fish with me but I'm sure it will be here much sooner than I think. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted August 4, 2014 Super User Posted August 4, 2014 Good times start those memories early Quote
boostr Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Always nice to get the fam out. To make the life jacket fit, two words "DUCT TAPE". Wait till he's old enough and starts nagging to go fishing, and when you tell him that you guys can't because of bad weather and he starts crying you know he's hardcore. 1 Quote

STPC Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 I know you can't wait 'til he is big enough to go w/you, but you will miss the days when he was small enough to hold in one arm. Great looking family and some healthy looking fish...it seems all is well in Kansas. Quote
