SCouture Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 My boyfriend and I both caught bass at Lake Winnepesaukee. He is telling me they are both small mouth bass but I think mine is a large-mouth and his is a small mouth. My fish is first below and his is second. Can anyone help solve this battle? 2 Quote
Super User Marty Posted July 15, 2014 Super User Posted July 15, 2014 My guess would be both smallies, but I can't see enough detail on your fish. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 16, 2014 Global Moderator Posted July 16, 2014 Smallies without a doubt. Next time if you're not sure just close their mouth and see if the bottom jaw extends past the eye. If it does it's a largemouth, if it doesn't it's a smallmouth (or spot or basically any of the other subspecies of bass). 3 Quote

Super User senile1 Posted July 16, 2014 Super User Posted July 16, 2014 The mouth is the obvious way to differentiate the species, but those bronze bodies with light vertical stripes were a dead giveaway as well. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted July 16, 2014 Super User Posted July 16, 2014 Yea, the first pic was outta focus, contrast etc... But after the new pic was uploaded it was clear the first was a smallmouth! Quote
