FrogFreak Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I bought a Crestliner VT17 with a 60 horse 4 stroke last year and a Wavewalk kayak at about the same time. Now I find myself using the yak about 80% of the time and the boat sits. Am I the only one that enjoys the simplicity of yak fishing more than hauling a boat around? I've seriously considered selling the boat but my wife keeps telling me to keep it for those times that we both want to use it. I did end up buying the wife a yak so she can come with me. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted July 11, 2014 Super User Posted July 11, 2014 It depends on if you fish smaller bodies of water or larger bodies of water the most, I suppose. I have a 19.5 foot bassboat with a 200 horse motor and I have a 10 foot jon boat. Last year I used the jon boat more than the bassboat. This year I have only used the jon boat 3 times while the bassboat is being used the majority of the time. Quote
B@ssCrzy Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I am in the same position. Have a 17ft boat and bought a Jackson Cuda last fall. I have fished more this year than I have my whole life and I credit that to the kayak. However, the main reason for that is that where I live the lake that is about 5 min from me only has 1 ramp and they charge $15 on weekdays and $30 on weekends to use it. So for me to get my motorboat out on it makes it a pretty expensive day. For me they are different types of fishing. With the kayak I find myself being forced to slow down and really work an area, but in my boat I love to power fish and cover a lot of water. I don't plan on selling either one of them because I like having the different experiences that each one offers. Quote

I hear you on slowing down. I find that I spend more time in productive areas. I have an RV at a lake about 2.5 hours from my home. My boat and yak stay there. So, if I want to fish any other lake I have to drive my gas guzzling truck to the lake on the weekend. The lake we stay at isn't the best bass lake so I would rather hit some other more productive lakes in the area. I can just toss the yak on my wife's Subaru and head out. Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted July 11, 2014 Super User Posted July 11, 2014 You are not alone however, for me, the "culprit" is a two-man Bass Raider. I've used it constantly this season and last but my 17 foot boat has only been taken out...maybe 3 times. I, too, am considering selling the big boat as it mostly just takes up space in my garage. If I buy a kayak-which I'm seriously considering-that will probably be the clincher. Quote
jhoffman Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Not I, I need 200,000,000,000 different lures to carry around and fish the same stuff every day. I love having a power boat, I almost like driving it as much as fishing. In fact, Id say a lot of guys enjoy the driving part as much or more seeing how they fly up and down the lake all day burning up 30 gallons of gas. Quote
