So last week I bought a bottle of Spike-it dip. I used it on Thursday and it smelled strongly like garlic as it should. Last night I pulled the bottle out of my boat and was going to dip a few worms to have them ready to go tomorrow morning when I am planning on going with a friend. Anyways now the dip is not coloring the worms at all. Also after dipping the first worm I noticed that the dip now smells like rubbing alcohol. I tried shaking it and the rubbing alcohol smell just got stronger. Im not really worried about it, I can always just get another bottle, but Im just not sure what would have caused this. I never let the bottle get extremely hot, it sat in the boat outside in a compartment, but the hottest day we have had has been 95f, so not hot enough I would think it would cause the dip to go bad.

That is strange. Whatever worm you dipped in there must have had a chemical reaction!

Just a FYI, don't dip the spike-it ahead of time. It only penetrates the surface of the plastic so the scent will not be as potent when you do it ahead of time. Best to be done on the water. You can dip JJs ahead of time, but it might stink up your boat.

Spike-it definitely has the edge when it comes to user friendliness. You can toss that bottle wherever you want. I have a bottle thats been in the boat for at least 5 years. Summer, winter, all the time. JJ's you have to keep on ice on a hot day or it will heat up and leak all over the place. Don't leave it in the boat or your truck or you'll come back to a cracked jar and a puddle of never-ending stank.

Don't get me wrong, JJs is the bomb.. just wish they could get a better way of packaging it.

I left a bottle of Spike It in my boat when it was hot and it seemed to have lost it's color a bit. It still dyes the lighter color baits, but I can't tell I did anything with a green pumpkin worm anymore.

I've personally used Spike-It that was years old, had sat out in the heat and freezing cold alike, and it was just fine. You just either got a bad batch, or dipped something in it that somehow reacted with it in a strange way, like Kevin22 said.

Having said that, I'll have to try out JJ's some time, if I get the chance.
