Here's a virus I got in my old computer:

homeland-security-virus_1.png?1266

Dubbed as ransomware. I got an infected email and opened a link to a website that was hacked, next thing I knew, my computer was completely locked with the above image on my screen. I couldn't do a thing. I had to remove the power cord and battery to shut down. Wouldn't even let me open in safe mode, but I was able to open a safe mode system restore tool. It took quite a while to figure that one out, but it worked. I performed quick scan with Malewarebytes and it found and deleted the Trojan Ransom virus. I'm running a full scan now.

I hope you don't get this one so I thought I'd give you a heads up folks!

I got the FBI ransomware virus a few years ago. Had to go thru DOS to get back into the d**n computer. Then enter into the computer via safe mode with no internet connection. It took 3 d**n hours to fix that thing.

Rule number one with any computer, never use a administrator account during normal use. Always use a reguler user account, greatly lowers the amount of damage these would cause.

Probably. Lonely Russians singles looking to meet you tonight!

Me? I ain't gonna lie. I was looking at smut. Filthy filthy smut. The likes of which only slonezp has seen. Some of that make the dog gag smut. I'll admit to that. I mean really now. Who uses the email excuse?

I can't fathom how watching porn for 2 1/2 minutes a day can have such an effect on a computer.

I've never seen anything quite like that before.  One thing I do think is true is that computer usage is monitored and certain "catch words or phases" are red flagged.  Some years ago a person from New Jersey was making comments on the net, he was flagged and visited by the FBI, this was before 9/11.  He was a minor and making school threats.

Good question, but you also have to wonder if that virus didn't hijack his entire address book to spread it even further.

I've been getting bogus emails from peeps/friends who never email me. I would hover my curser over their name only to find out that their name was a cover up for the real recipient. I started sending to my spam folder. I never got these type emails up until a couple of years ago when I joined Facebook. I only say this because the phantom emails came with names who are friends on FB but I do not have them in my email contact list.

Another email came in but this was from someone I knew well enough so I didn't bother to hover my curser over it. Just said "Hey John" on the subject line and in the body of the text it said "check this out" and a link. I thought it was for an article bit it turned out to be a porn site. I shut down the site, went to delete the email but the virus froze my computer.

SirSnookalot, its a complete fake. The images are pulled from legitimate sites to make it look real but only to scare of the affected person more.

If you are using an administrator account the malware can do whatever an admin can do making the damage worse and harder to correct. Using a regular user account reduces what can be done, my wife got the FBI one before. Only took 15 minutes to fix since it was a user account.
