I like the Abu Garcia Hank Parker Combo. 7' medium heavy rod. I use it for cranking.

I bought that combo a little while back. At first I really liked it, but over time I could see some downsides of it. the rod functions ok but it feels pretty cheaply in the hands. I have had two of the reels and saw the same problem with both. They are very smooth, but they are really finicky when it comes to throwing the crank. They will sometimes suddenly want to over run without any reason to. Its like youll cast for a while and itll preform great, then suddenly mid cast the breaks are just gone. Honestly I dont know what else in that price range I would recommend but I would try to stay away from it if you can find anything else to be on the safe side.

Ive been a little strapped for cash during this summer and was wondering if anyone has experience with the Abu Garcia Orra Winch combo? http://www.abugarcia.com/products/combos/low-profile-baitcast-reel-combos/orra-winch-combo Is there any other combos/setups at this price range that would work as well, or better for light to medium cranks?

I'm assuming by light to medium cranks, you're talking about sqaurebills and medium diving cranks. Both of which are normally under 1/2 oz. I use a H2O Xpress Ethos 7' Medium Moderate Composite Cranker ($60) and a H2O Xpress Mettle ($60). I know that you were probably looking at the Orra Winch because of its 5.4:1 gear ratio, but unless you plan on throwing big deep divers the low gear ratio is unnecessary. The brake system on the Mettle will also be able to cast the light cranks better than the MagTrax brake system on the Orra Winch. I personally don't like the new series of Orra's. Don't get me wrong, I love both of my first gen Orra SX' s, but I prefer my 3 Mettles more so than any of the new Orra's. I know you may be sceptical of the H2O brand because it's Academy's house brand, but a quick search on the forum will show you just how much everyone loves them.
