Super User ww2farmer Posted May 31, 2014 Super User Posted May 31, 2014 The rods and reels I use for frogging pull double and triple duty. 2 Quote
kawiguy08 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 I had the same question. I am thinking of getting the bass pro pro qualifier on a med heavy carbonlite. Do you think that would would for the mentioned above. Sorry for jacking the tread. Quote
kawiguy08 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Thank you for the input. I was wondering the heavy would be better but was not sure. Is a 7 foot rod ok. Quote
Mike2841 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 As long as you have braid on the reel you can throw a frog on anything with a decent backbone. I've thrown them on med spinning outfits and mh casting, my buddy uses a cheap daiwa combo he got at Walmart for 25$ that's rated up to 3/4 oz. Quote

Go with as long of a rod that you can easily use in a tip down manner, that is how frogs are typically worked. The longer the rod you can work in this manner without issue will benefit you on the jig side of things. Quote
kawiguy08 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Thank you very much for the input. Very good to know. Quote
fisherrw Posted May 31, 2014 Author Posted May 31, 2014 Do you think that the abu veritas in 7 heavy would fit this application? And a lews bb1? Quote
ABW Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Do you think that the abu veritas in 7 heavy would fit this application? And a lews bb1? You may only need a MH if you're going to buy a Veritas. Those things are generally rated a power above, If you get to feel them in hand, see which one feels better for you. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted June 1, 2014 Super User Posted June 1, 2014 Do you think that the abu veritas in 7 heavy would fit this application? And a lews bb1? I can only speak for the rod, but I prefer the 7' MH Veritas for general frogging. If super thick cover is your game you might want a heavy powered rod, I use my 7'6" H vendetta flipping stick for dragging frogs across mats. The 7'H is just too short and stiff for my liking for that kind of work. Quote
kawiguy08 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Would the setup i mentioned also work for crank baits. I bought a few for cheap and was wondering what to use them on. Quote
ColdSVT Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Would the setup i mentioned also work for crank baits. I bought a few for cheap and was wondering what to use them on. Very tough to frog and crank on the same rod...my crankin rods are like noodles compared to my frog rod Quote
kawiguy08 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Ok thank you. Could i just use my med spinning gear that i have. Quote

Mr. BattleArmor Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 I guess technically you could, but most people use a slower tip rod for crank baits, so it bends deeper into the rod. Quote
coak Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 You could get away with square bills on a frogging rod possibly, but not much else Quote
