I posted a thread to suggest me brands for Shakey heads and ended up ordering the megastrike shakE head in 1/4 weight, but I need some help with the technique.

I throw it out there let it sink blah blah blah but then how do you guys get it to wobble and shake? If I shake my rod tip on a slack line it seems to not really shake but if I tighten up it seems to just drag and bounce the bottom like a normal jig.

I'm using a medium power fast action spinning rod with 8 pound trilene XL if that means anything.

I tighten up the line and wiggle the rod tip. It will drag a little, yes. But that's ok. I catch many, many bass dragging a shakeyhead. You picked a good jig head too.

For the record, I spool my spinning reel with 10-20lb braid and then tie an 8-12lb fluorocarbon leader (between 4-6ft). It's MUCH more sensitive.

I got some of those also,  they get stuck in rocks way to easy for me, so now they just sit in my hook box and collect rust.  I primarily use 1/4 oz football head from walmart- black head with red hook- get 5 for 2 bucks and when the paint is gone I throw the jig in the trash- it's usually dull by then.

Funny, I've had the opposite experience about hanging up. I feel these hang up the least of any shakey head I've used. The lake I normally fish is very rocky too. I'm using 3/16 oz.

I have had very good success with this just twitching the rod tip then reeling up slack (kind of shake and drag)

Also try lifting the ShakE2 just of the bottom and letting it sit before

moving it forward. I caught a +/- 6lb bass yesterday using this presentation

riggrg with a GYCB Kut Tail (green pimpkin/ black flakes).

Lol I did like glenn and put some chartreuse JJ's magic in the tail and started getting a few hits but I missed all of them :L I kept setting the hook but not getting it in there jaw good enough. Its not a very thin wire hooks so I think I'm gonna have to get some braid so I can have a more powerful hookset because this 8lb mono isn't working to good. Or maybe I'm just missing something...

Same thing happened to me loved the idea but I fish lots of rocks and keep getting hung. Went back to simple old spot removers less hanging up. Have a few left of the mega strikes my give another shot.

The issue with jig heads along with any other lure getting snagged in rocks is when the line gets wedged in between the points of contact or near points of  contact of the rocks. If you feel the head or baits starting to get tight(hung up/wedged) just shake the rod tip a bit and they will ride right over the rocks. I have watched how this happens by diving and observing how the lures get wedged. 99% of the fishermens first instinct is to  pull or set the hook- and what that does is wedge the line and bait even deeper into the wedge. THE BAIT MUST COME OUT IN THE SAME DIRECTION AS IT WENT IN--otherwise it snags and causes abrasion to the line and it  snaps . The angler must discipline himself not to pull a lure deeper into the snag. believe me once you have disciplined yourself to do this -you will retrieve back 95% of your snagged lures - on the shakey2heads the fulcrum acts like a skid plate-just keep slight pressure on it and it will ride over the rocks.

I perfected this technique in a friend's  swimming pool. Tighten your line. Holding the rod in your preferred hand, use your index finger of the opposite hand & just tap the line a few inches ahead of the reel. You can vary the force of the tap until you see what they want, but it is usually light. I've also found out that they are obviously watching the bait shake because I get a lot of bites as soon as I lift it to move or make another cast.

It was bass for sure not small sunfish... I would fight them for a couple seconds before they got off.

Thanks for the tips guys it really helped between yesterday and today I've got about 5 good bass on the mega strike Shakey head.

Oh and BTW I switched to 10lb braid and it helped with my hook sets a lot!

Sweet. glad its working for you.

Be careful if using braid and a leader. The leader can snap more easily since its so short. Keep it at least 5-6'.

I almost never use leaders because all the lakes and ponds I fish are 1- 1.5ft visibility. Except one place called rays mill pond thats gin clear then I'll throw one on.
