Super User rippin-lips Posted May 28, 2014 Super User Posted May 28, 2014 Fished for 2hrs after work last night. We had a crazy storm yesterday but it didn't effect the bite at all. Think it probably helped. 7:30-9:30 and I managed 18 fish. 4 in the first 20 minutes. Everything was on a rage craw Tx rigged except 5 of them were on a cavitron. All but 1 were decent fish. For some reason I just thought it'd be worth tying on and I'm glad I did. First fish on it went 3.6 We had some more crazy rain last night and some light showers today. I'm gonna go give it another shot after work. 2 Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted May 28, 2014 Super User Posted May 28, 2014 Congrats... its awesome when the topwater bite is on fire. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted May 28, 2014 Author Super User Posted May 28, 2014 Yeah I've been waiting all year for it to start. In this area it takes awhile for the water to finally get stable. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted May 28, 2014 Super User Posted May 28, 2014 Nice fish! You ever test that digital scale of yours? I have the same one and come to find out its a solid 8-9 oz off (on the light side). I have a new scale coming to me now. I know the rapala scales are hit or miss so if you've never checked it you may want to. Not sure that it matters to you but made my head spin a bit when i figured out how far off mine was. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted May 28, 2014 Author Super User Posted May 28, 2014 No, I haven't ever thought about it to be honest. I knew they could be off +\- a bit but never imagined 1/2lb I'll have to track down a 5lb weight. 1 Quote
jtharris3 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Nothing better than top water! I'm hoping to get my frog on this weekend. Assuming of course, the fish cooperate! Quote
Mccallister25 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Awesome! Topwater bite has been fairly hot around my parts too. Gotta love it. Quote
einscodek Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Great its that time of the year and Im in the same area so I'm whippin out my topwaters and theyre gonna get the first shot Quote
Super User Darren. Posted May 29, 2014 Super User Posted May 29, 2014 Great stuff! Got my first topwater frog catch the other morning. Very exciting stuff. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted May 29, 2014 Author Super User Posted May 29, 2014 Went back tonight and managed 17 plus 1 big crappie. I'd say it was 50/50 between the rage craw and cavitron. I threw it a lot more since I know they are hitting it now. I'd throw it and cover the area well and then cover it again with the rage craw. Then move down the bank to the end of where I was casting and repeat that process. Quote
