Super User Catch and Grease Posted May 27, 2014 Super User Posted May 27, 2014 The fishing has been kinda slow in my pond at my house so I decided to try something I never do, I used a tiny spinnerbait with colored blades, I didn't catch anything but had one follow it for a couple feet. Do you guys ever use colored blades like red, black, green, yellow, chartreuse anything different than the normal silver and bronze colored blades? I've always used the normal mettalic blades and did fine but I think I'm going to start trying colored blades more often and see what happens... P.S this is the spinnerbait I was using, does it look familiar? I would like to know the brand because I like it but I found it at the bottom of my pile of spinnerbaits. EDIT: just caught a nice bass after posting this btw Quote
Super User bigbill Posted May 28, 2014 Super User Posted May 28, 2014 What the water conditions? Do you use a scent? Clear water natural colors fished faster. So the fish don't get a good look at it. Silver blades. Stained water a combination of natural and bright colors fished slower. But the level of the stained water matters what color. Lure speed slower. Gold colored blades. Muddy water bright colored larger sized baits fished the slowest. Brighter painted blades is another option. Colorado and Indiana blades give off lots of vibration. To me that's a plus. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted May 28, 2014 Author Super User Posted May 28, 2014 After I posted this I fished until it started to get dark and I started catching the heck out of em with this spinner... Quote

papajoe222 Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Colored blades are killers on pike and musky and at times on smallies. The thing is, I've caught plenty of largemouth while pike fishing. Last year in Wisconsin, I landed a 5lb. LM, cast back in the general area and had a BIG musky or northern take the same bait. I lost both the fish and the lure when the line was cut off on the fish's teeth above the wire leader I was using. That reinforced two things I know to be true. Bass are not line shy when you're fishing reaction baits and a 12in. leader is too short for musky fishing! Quote
Super User bigbill Posted May 28, 2014 Super User Posted May 28, 2014 After I posted this I fished until it started to get dark and I started catching the heck out of em with this spinner... The bass turn on as it gets dark. I fished every evening from 5pm on till dark at 8:30/9:00pm. As the light conditions change from daylite to dusk the basses eyes change faster to the changing light conditions. As we're it takes the bait fishes eyes longer to change making them easy prey. This happens in the evenings and early mornings. At midday the sunlite in the water causes the plant life to bloom. At this time the bait fish feed on the plankton. The bass also feed at this time. This is good for the shore fisherman to know this. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 28, 2014 Global Moderator Posted May 28, 2014 The coleslaw colored War Eagle with painted white blades is a killer in clear water on cloudy days. I've had really good luck with tandem colorado blades, one red and one chartreuse, in really muddy water. That's a Booyah Pond Magic spinnerbait for sure. 1 Quote
B@ssCrzy Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 I use painted blades for smallies in ultra clear water and it is my favorite lure to use. White and Chartreuse or just white. Catch the heck out of 'em. Quote
PersicoTrotaVA Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 I love spinnerbait fishing! I have a few Booyah Moontalkers. Great in dirty water and awesome for night fishing. I also have a SK double blade with the large blade painted sexy shad on one side. I haven't used that one yet. Quote
Bobby Uhrig Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Been doing it differently since we started- No one does colored blades like Megastrike -Watch and learn Quote
