Robertqq Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Hello, Used a Wacky Rig for the first time. Actually caught a nice size Largemouth on it, amazingly, but would like to attach it "correctly," Hence my question. What's the best way to attach: What I have now is the line (braided-6 lb) attached to 12" of clear mono, and then a very small snap swivel a. What I have now ? b. The line directly to the hook; no mono or snap swivel ? c. Or,...? Do you think the small snap swivel imparts any non-desireable weight on the worm (a Senko) ? Clear Mono a good idea, or hardly matters usually ? Thanks, Bob Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 27, 2014 Super User Posted May 27, 2014 Tie a Palomar knot to secure the #1 or 1/0 drop shot hook to your fluorocarbon line. Then run the hook through the middle of the Senko and you are ready to go. To protect the Senko from being torn easily, purchase some Gardner Bender 3/8 Polyolefin Heat Shrink Tubing and cut one of the strips into 1/4 inch (+/-) sections. Slip the small section of the tubing onto the worm so that the worm flies like a butterfly when you center the tubing and move the worm up and down with your fingers. Heat the tubing onto the Senko and run the hook between the tubing and the Senko's skin. Thank Ike for this suggestion. 1 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted May 28, 2014 Super User Posted May 28, 2014 Agree with Sam. And no, do not use a snap swivel. As well, Palomar is probably the easiest to tie, you can also learn the snell knot, others. But Palomar will keep things simple. I second the heat shrink. What I like to do is hook through the "top" of the heat shrink as opposed through the center of the worm as I would without the shrink. Sounds like that may be what Sam described in going through the senko's skin... Allows a bit more of the hook to be open this way. Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 No reason to run a leader with light braid. Tie the braid directly to the hook. no need for a swivel. If you really think you need a leader make it 6' or so. With braid and a short leader of mono or flouro (12-24") you will snap the leader on hookset. I use 20# Power Pro and no leader in fairly clear water with no ill effects and never break fish off. Quote
