gnuisance Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Have a perch colored shallow scatter rap and have never really done much with it. This weekend I tied it on in about 3-4 feet of water in a pretty weedy area. It runs very shallow, only goes down to about 1-2 feet, I was just above the tops of the weeds and was fishing it kind of like a jerk bait but also varying the speed of the retrieve quite a bit. Hammered the bass and pickerel on this thing. Would love to hear others experience with this bait.... Quote
ghost Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 The Scatter Rap Shallow runs and casts the best from the other Scatter Rap models. I find though that the shallow for me runs from 2-4 feet and that's using 30-40 lb braid. I've been hammering the bass on the Scatter Rap Shallow. I haven't tried the jerk bait method, will try that this weekend. Here's some pics of recent catches: 2 Quote

Yup, tackle, rod , reel junkie to the 'nth degree Of course I remember you but I never left, just posted a lot less, usually just Sundays and ocassionally during the week, I did notice the gear but you normally don´t buy 5-6 rods just because they are different colored ( if manufacturers did so I would be in trouble ), lures are another history. TrapperJ Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Started throwing the Scatter Rap Deep Diver, and love it! Caught some chunky girls this weekend 3.5 being the biggest. Its actually great for throwing even shallow deflects like a champ for me. Will be throwing it more Quote
TrapperJ Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 "Jerkbait Method" so your saying your just working it like a jerk bait, please elbraote I know some have trouble getting this bait to dive, just encase your were wondering, 7' M action Duckett with a Lews Speed Spool 6:4:1 I think the main key is start the reel slow then once its down you can speed up as needed. I hope people remain skeptical about this bait cause its working for me and less fish that see it on my local lakes the better Quote

PersicoTrotaVA Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 I saw a vid on youtube for this thing and went and bought one my next day off, I haven't gotten a fish to the boat with it but I hooked into a few decent fish with it. I have found that to get the scatter action you really need to crank it back at a medium to fast pace. No slow rollin squarebills here gentlemen. Jerkin and twitchin work decent. To really get the action, try a long rod sweep at waist level to the right or the left. Point your rod at the bait while holding the rod at waist level parallel with the water surface. Keep the line tight so you may have to reel slowly as you do it to get the bait to stay under the surface. This will get it to scatter back and forth and then stop, sweep your rod tip back to in front of you and reel in the slack. Repeat. A fish will most likely smack it on the pause while you are reeling the slack. You wait a second or 2 and then set the hook. The speed at which you sweep and reel slack depends on the fish. Try it slow, fast, medium, until you find that speed that the fish like. Just try not to go so slow that your bait breaks the surface. Just a few ways I fish my shallow scatter rap. Hope it helps someone catch more fish. 1 Quote
gnuisance Posted May 28, 2014 Author Posted May 28, 2014 In regards to my jerkbait retrieve. Since the advantage of this bait is it's out of the box "hunting" action, I just found that some pauses and jerks helped to show this even more than a straight retrieve Quote
TorqueConverter Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 I do well with the Scatter Rap Shallow in Bluegill and Smash right after ice out. The irony is that at these water temps I fish it so slowly that is does not hunt side to side and instead I rely on the subtle, tight and slow wobble. As the water warms the bait becomes less effective for me, even at faster retrieves. Due to the bait's very shallow dive angle you can make the bait run quite shallow by raising the rod tip high as the bait reaches the mid way point between the point of entry into the water and your location. Paring this up to a long 7+ foot rod can make the bait run as shallow as 1-2 feet. One thing to be concerned about with the bait is weedlessness. The very small lip on the bait does little to prevent snags. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 28, 2014 Global Moderator Posted May 28, 2014 The biggest problem I have with mine is getting it back from the fish! Every largemouth I catch with it chokes it like that. The spots hammer it too but are a little more reasonable with how deep they eat the bait. 1 Quote
Scorchx1245 Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 I love my scatter raps.... Hope they stay a myth around me... Same with brush hogs Quote
