War Eagle 44 Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 I've been "hooked" on swimming a jig for the last two years, I haven't caught any big ones doing it yet but I've caught several in the 4 pound range. My most productive color so far has been chartreuse and white followed by the Green Sunfish color Dirty Jigs puts out. I've had limited luck on black/blue. Most of the posts I see or reports I hear from other anglers are mostly about Bream related colors. I've fished the Alabama Bream colored Dirty Jig with some success but not nearly as much as it seems other guys are having with similar patterns. So I decided to try and tie a few jigs with what I think might be good Bream imitating colors. These are the colors I came up with, maybe they'll work maybe they won't. I'll just have to wait and see. My question to you fella's is what are your favorite Bream imitating swim jig patterns. Post pics if you have them so I can get an idea of what I may need to be making. Thanks guys. 1 Quote
Smokinal Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 ^^^Those are some nice looking swim jigs. Do you use a trailer on them? If so, what type and color? Quote
Pz3 Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 That top one looks pretty dang nice. Im really looking for some crappie colored ones and Dirty Jigs has one. I just need to order it. Was really hoping to see a seibert swim jig in crappie colors but I dont think he has that immitation yet. Anyways nice work on the jigs. Definitly want to see how they work out for you. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted May 25, 2014 Super User Posted May 25, 2014 The bottom one is what I use, my bluegill imitations have blue, orange, green pumpkin, and a tiny bit of chartreuse. I also go with a green gill which is a medium green pumpkin with a light sky blue which would be a green sunfish that inhabits the same areas that bluegill do and you have that covered with the top one. I like all of those and I give you a lot of credit for having some different versions, bluegill have a lot of different colors to them and there are also other kinds that hang together like green sunfish as I mentioned before, and pumpkin seeds and just different variations. Very nice work indeed!! Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted May 25, 2014 Super User Posted May 25, 2014 Nice jigs, those look great! 1 Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 A 4 pounder is not big? It's a very nice fish to be sure but I'm looking for one around 8 or 9 pounds. There are always a few this size weighed in throughout the year on my lake so I know they're in there I just can't seem to interest one. Very nice work indeed!! Thank you for the kind words, I've caught several different species of Sunfish from this lake so that's why I wanted to try and find a few different colors that worked and also ones that aren't mass produced. I need all the advantage I can get. That top one looks pretty dang nice. Im really looking for some crappie colored ones and Dirty Jigs has one. I just need to order it. I've caught a few fish on the Dirty Jigs Crappie color but it doesn't seem to be "the" color on my lake either. It sure is a nice looking color to my eyes though. As I said earlier a chartreuse and white swim jig has produced the best for me by a long shot so I may just be complicating things here by trying to fix something that isn't broken. The lake is loaded with Sunfish though so that's why I feel I just haven't found the right imitation yet. ^^^Those are some nice looking swim jigs. Do you use a trailer on them? If so, what type and color? Thank you. I use quite a few different trailers, anything from a small swimbait to regular swimming chunk style trailer. I'm one of those people who try and match my trailer as close as possible to the jig skirt colors. Thanks everyone so far for your feedback. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted May 26, 2014 Super User Posted May 26, 2014 Panfish/bluegill/bream, whatever you want to call them differ in color in every body of water. I do what you have done and make a few different colors of each to cover the bases. Allen Quote

gripnrip Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Great looking baits! My favorite bluegill imitation is Sieberts. It has been killer for me the last 2 years. That top one looks pretty dang nice. Definitly want to see how they work out for you. Shoot him a PM. If he can he will tie up some patterns that you're thinking. If I'm not mistaken that is how the bleeding shad swim jig came about. Super User roadwarrior Posted May 27, 2014 Super User Posted May 27, 2014 The perfect bream: Siebert Blind Date, Wide Gap, Bluegigg/ Rage Tail Shellcracker, Honey Candy http://www.siebertoutdoors.com/Siebert-Tournament-Widegap-Jig-023.htm Quote
gnuisance Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 I use bluegill colored swim jigs quite a bit. I have had good luck using the rage tail menace grub in "bluegill" as a trailer. I like going on Siebert's website and creating different combinations. If your lake has pumpkinseed sunfish try using some chartreuse Quote
