^^^ I'm sure they'll both cast 40 yards with the right rod and lure but I have a really hard time believing that the mg can do it with an 1/8oz shakey head. Actually I don't believe will at all. So I'd like to see proof from you Carolina Bassin because you're full of it.

I have an upgraded/supertuned steez and I'm gonna say that there's no way it'll cast an 1/8oz shakey head 40 yards.

Can you throw a 1/8 oz shaky head, on floro, 40 yrds with out back lashing, using a Tatula? I can do it with my Lew's all day.

Whewwwww,,,,,,,I like my Lews as well as anyone, as I said they make better choices at this price point, but to be honest, the MG is one of the worst reel Lew's make for casting 1/8 oz anything, it is built all wrong for that!!! I'm sorry but I have owned and or service nearly every reel Lew's has made, Super Tuned several, and I own a highly Super Tuned Lew's Team Pro that has trouble casting a 1/8 oz jig much past 25 yards, 40 in the perfect wind maybe at my back and I do everything perfect on 20 832 Sufix, and this reel was built to cast light finesse rigs. I have to call bull when it smells like this!!! neither reel is capable of this performance and even tuned I doubt the Mg could do close to that with it's factory spool and other part's.

The guy asked because he want honest facts to decide how to spend his money, not buy something and think he got a dud or is not capable of using something as others can,,,,,,,,lota this here,,,,,the facts are the Pro's have said the Tatula is not capable of much below 1/4 oz with any kind of consistent results!! Here are some Pro's reviews on the Diawa,,,,, http://anglingauthority.com/2013/11/daiwas-new-tatula-reel-product-review/,,,,,,,or http://www.tackletour.com/reviewdaiwatatula.html, I have never fished with one and personally don't care for the feel, I also think the Mg is the more dependable and better feeling bass reel, but would add 10 or 20 bucks and for around $125.00 get a Tournament NBS over the Mg, not so much for the braking although it is made for whatever braking system you want, even dual if you want to use both, but it has a much better spool for most bass fishing situations and improved line guide over the Mg, just the way they build them, and the Tatula has had some complain about the line guide system not being reliable!!! But 1/8 oz 40 yards,,,on Fluoro,,,,,stock,,,,,on the Mg,,,next time don't forget that 60 mph gale force wind you had at your back!!!!!!

Pretty sure I could if it had a 6" or 7" senko on it and the right line haha.

For the OP.  I would personally recommend trying them both out and making sure they're going to be comfortable in your hand.  I think they are both great reels for the price and really feel like you couldn't go wrong with either. As another poster said, pick what you believe is more comfortable and stick to having fun!

I agree, mg is better. Smoother and tatula is too bulky

i currently own both, and i like both of them very much... they both perform up to my expectations, and deliver solid performance day in and day out... that being said for basically the same money you can get a T3-B from TW for 110.00 and that is a superior reel to both of these (imo) both in performance and quality... only down side to the T3 is the handle, but put a lexa handle on it for 20 and you have your self one heck of a casting reel for 130.00... if you must choose between the two you originally posted, i would go with the tatula.

The other day when we were out fishing we were fishing right next to a boulder, and my dad threw a Sammy to the corner of a dock and caught a nice fish. Later when we got off the water he was telling the story about the fish he caught and he said his cast was about 40 yrds. On Monday we were fishing the same spot and when we got to the boulder I was able to cast to the same corner of of the dock with a shaky head. Possibly my dad was off a little bit thinking it was further than it really was. I believe I was using a 1/8 but I may have pulled out 1/4 on accident thinking it was a 1/8 I dont know.  And I was using a rod with a lot of tip action so the rod helped a lot too, it wasnt just the reel.

I've owned both and preferred the mg though the tournament speed spool is more in line with the tatula. I just preferred how the lews palmed compared to the tatula. Performance wise they are both good reels and each would do you well.

I have my preferences but reading that one or the either is "no doubt" or "easily better" is just a plain lie. Each are solid and will have supporters

Ha! What's sad is I've actually bought some "beater" gear for the Resevoirs here. Going out twice with my good stuff got me scared enough to buy some 7ft and under rods to fit in the 14ft rowboats better. *hangs head in shame*

he said his cast was about 40 yrds.

It's the same as guessing a fishes weight without a scale. Most people over guess their casting distance and the weights of fish. Unless you mark it off or put it on a scale it's merely speculation.

40 yards = 120 feet, thats just over 6.5 boat lengths on an 18ft boat for perspective, end to end.

If you can get the Tatula for 100 dollars, I would go with that. It has less plastic parts than the Lews and overall better value at that price.

Off topic, but the circle bashing is as annoying as the unrealistic claims.

I know it wasn't mentioned by OP but the Revo Winch is an awesome crankbait reel.   The Tatula is awesome as well.  I have never owned a Lew's and probably never will so I cannot give an answer on them.

Everyone just taking a turn at the guy who said "casting a 1/8th shakyhead for 40 some yards" just seem dry and pointless to me. I don't want to say what I mean't since I am not quite sure about the languages we are suppose to use :)

Very similar to oval bashing.

Oh I get it same as Kurt "Bushing"  I mean bashing,,,,, IAY you will find it is hard to get away with :bull:  here, far to many have been there done that, and once called on it, your better off to let it die than try and justify it. :wink3:

I don't get how I am trying to get away with BS here lol? Can't I say that I am annoyed at how everyone is posting something irrelevant to the OP's initial question just because of one silly unrealistic answer another guy has given? I am done getting so off-topic so this will be the last for me.

I prefer triangle bashing, because it has a point.

I prefer the Tatula over all the Lews I've tried; including the Tourney Pro. For me, I prefer the Type R for another $35, but the Tatula at $100 is a deal. The T3 Ballistic is $93 right now with the memorial day sale, stupid price for that reel as well.
