justafisherman Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I'd be using this rod for smaller spinners, chatter baits, and cranks. I have the 705cb glass and love it, but can't throw the lighter stuff all the best with it. I'd appreciate any input from someone who has fished both. Thanks. Quote
speed craw Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I to also have the 705cb , it is a fantastic rod but not for what it sounds like you are wanting to use it for . my 705cb is for square bills and medium depth crankbaits , spinnerbaits and heavier jerk baits . I have ordered my 704cb for the same reasons you are looking for lighter lures . The 704 cb is perfect for smaller jerkbaits , spinners etc . Some other folks might suggest some other rod options . nocellcontracts Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Basically you are asking "glass vs. graphite". Constant retrieve lures are going to give a "jitter" feedback. If you don't want that "jitter" in your hands, go glass. If you don't mind the jitter - go graphite. Personally, I went with the 684C for Spinners and Chatterbaits. On second thought, I kinda wish I'd went with the 705 glass. It simply takes some of the extreme feel out of it. You don't need extreme sensitivity when throwing a spinnerbait. You'll know all too well when she swims up, grabs it, and takes off with it. Quote
HokieDJ Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I thought the 705CB glass was best all around rod? I was thinking of getting one. I'm pretty much going to throw 1/2 oz lipless cranks, shallow cranks 0-10ft, chatters and spinnerbaits (1/2 oz) if I can. Do you think the 704CB glass is the right one? Quote
dam0007 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Step down another notch for small stuff, check out the 684cb. As far as glass, that's a personal preference. See if someone has one local to try out. 1 Quote

Grantman83 Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I agree with iabass. The 705cb will be better suited for those techniques. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Feeling the vibration from a crankbait can get you significantly more hookups. Some sensitivity is important, this doesn't necessarily rule out glass rods though. For shallow square bills and ripping traps through grass I prefer a graphite Mod-fast action. Med and deep cranks I like a good glass rod. I'm not familiar with the Dobyns specifically so I can't speak to that part of it. Quote
