Just read the article, I remember someone saying a cage was found on Guntersville just recently to.

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. (WAAY) - Two Marshall County men are accused of cheating in local bass tournaments.

Thursday, Robert Gillaspie and Gary Minor were charged with tampering with a sport contest.

While the charges are only misdemeanors, it's causing a lot of controversy among anglers.

Alex Davis, a local angler on Lake Guntersville says, “Once a year you will hear rumors, but when someone actually gets arrested its very shocking.”

Davis heard talk of the duo possibly cheating but chalked it up to gossip. He says, “I heard rumors about two weeks before it happened, but I just figured it was rumors. I’ve heard them before many times, when someone starts winning like that.”

Sources say the men hid fish to use come competition time.

Kay Donaldson, Alabama Bass Trail and Tournament Program Director says, “In any sport anytime there is a lot of money or a lot of prestige you are going to have that.”

Donaldson says she’s disappointed this happened. She says, “I hate that it hit our sport. I even hate that it was here at home on our home waters.”

The two men never entered any of the Bass Trail Tournaments. Donaldson says, “If you cheat you will get caught.”

The owner of BassWhacker Guide Service in Guntersville posted a Facebook status on the incident Saturday after the two were seen in BassWhacker t-shirts.

He declined to comment about the case, but his Facebook post says, "They are not employed by my business, they do not guide for me and they are not associated in any way with my business apart from a few t-shirts. I feel as deceived as everyone else!"

Both Gillaspie and Minor are out of jail after posting $6,000 bonds.

I'm confused. It's early and yet to have some coffee.

If you don't enter, how can you cheat?

If they won the tourney, they should be charge with felony theft if the amount warrants it.

I agree, if its over 300 dollars, unless they didn't let them collect the money.

That was confusing but I think he meant in past events. Which I have mentioned before that IMO those are the dudes that are suspect to me the ones that just show up.

Iv spent 32 years in Law Enforcement and have seen people stabbed over 5.00, anytime money is involved people will cheat, I just put it out of my mind and refuse to let it ruin the sport I love.

What comes around goes around, I know a dude that was revealed to have been cheating by an estranged ex wife, he used to win all the tourneys up at Okeechobee. She explained how he did it to a T.

He wound up never entering any tournaments again and stopped fishing, had to abandon the sport he loved, he recently died a poor old buzzard with Alzheimers.

I've read a couple articles on this issue. What I have gathered is that the two accused had won 6 fruit jar tourneys in a row (couple hundred bucks each) and people started getting suspicious. It actually sounded like they were being investigated rather than it being a one time protest type deal. It also said that they would only be charged for the most recent findings. The charge is a new one on me "tampering with a sports event". It also says that the two will not be banned from the tournaments.
