McFurie Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 I just saw a boat on the freeway sporting twin 150 mercury outboards my question is why not a single mercury 300 ? Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted May 7, 2014 Super User Posted May 7, 2014 Saltwater and big water guys prefer two engines for the safety. If a motor breaks while way out they still have one they can get home on. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted May 7, 2014 Super User Posted May 7, 2014 There's a dock I fish on my home water of 9000 acres. The guy has (3) 300hp Verados on the back of his boat. A bit of overkill Quote

Theres a boat on the upper chesapeake on one of the first docks out that is a 42' Statement (beautiful clean boat) with triple 350 Mercs. On sale for a measly $375,000 Quote

Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted May 7, 2014 Super User Posted May 7, 2014 Fairly common down here to see boats rigged with three or four 300's or 350's on the back. If I were to repower my offshore boat, I would seriously consider doing something similar. Some of the new steering systems for multiple outboard boats are ridiculously sweet. I've had the chance to play with some of them. A good friend of mine runs a fairly well known boat manufacturing shop next to my shop. 1200 horsepower hanging off the back of a 36' deep V center console is a wild freakin ride. It all depends on what you're wanting to do. Quote

Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted May 7, 2014 Super User Posted May 7, 2014 Well yeah. There is that whole money thing too.... The joysticks are pretty awesome. Got to play with them a bit at the show down here. I think Yamaha has a similar setup as well. Quote
