cjam93 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Hey guys so I need a new deep diving crankbait reel. I have narrowed what I want down between the Abu Gracia Orra Winch and the Lews Speed Spool. Both of these are 5.4:1 and come with the extended crank handle. They are also both the same price. My problem is that none of my local tackle shops carry them. I have used other Abu reels before and I have used other Lews reels before, but never got my hands on either one of these. Which would you recommend? Quote
Megastink Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Lews. It's lighter, smaller profile, all around great reel, and you can buy it for $80 on eBay. I'd go that route. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted April 23, 2014 Super User Posted April 23, 2014 Even though I've never owned an Orra or Lews, this would be based on my view point of reviews in such. In general the Orra seems to be hit or miss and consensus seems to be at least go to the Revo level. For speed spool same story they recommend going one level up, BUT the SS still gets better overall review. So based on this info I'd recommend the Lews. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted April 23, 2014 Super User Posted April 23, 2014 IIRC, the speed spool is a mag brake reel, and the new orra is a centrifugal reel, for casting baits where distance is a benefit I prefer centrifugal or dual brakeing reels. Quote
