Super User J Francho Posted March 20, 2014 Super User Posted March 20, 2014 The seat was probably the straw that broke the camel's back. A wimpy camel, that is, lol. Quote

KenG85 Posted March 28, 2014 Author Posted March 28, 2014 So I'm in Austin, Tx for vacation and was able to rent the Predator MX. First thing I notice is how stable this thing is. It was awesome to stand and fish parallel to a reed line. This was my first time standing on a kayak and it felt about as stable as a small jon boat and probably more stable than other canoe's I've been in. I'm strongly considering this smaller boat, but it is very heavy. The completely open deck is very nice. It did seem a bit slow, but I was also battling a good wind. So now I'm torn between the new Big Game II and this predator MX. I'm not considering the predator 13 because it is the heaviest of the three and the BGII seems to beat it from all aspects including being 15lbs lighter. Also found some new videos on the BGII https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4ukx5CpSnQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZ483Y4pcps Quote

The Predator MX simply because of it's huge flat deck and awesome seat. Also the Ride 115X Advanced, mostly because of the awesome seat, better (and more) hatches, nice features and transducer console system. How stable was that MX's deck to stand on and how did you like the seat? I'm having trouble deciding which one I like better tbh, and both cost around the same. Both are great SOT boats that will make me happy it's just a question of which will suit my needs better. That Predator MX's flat deck though... That would make for an extremely comfortable and versatile ride as well as a great standing platform- something that is just ok on the Ride because you can only stand up in one arrangement. I'd really appreciate some insight into that MX whenever you get a minute. Thanks man! Quote

I have to say the stability is astounding. I could literally hop up on to my feet when I wanted to. I never questioned my balance. I had plenty of leg room to spare. The individuals at the kayak shop were very impressed with the flat deck and definitely talked it up. The other thing they mentioned is that the absence of the mod pod makes the deck very rigid as well. It makes for great b/w the legs storage. However, in my 16 hours I never attempted to stand in the middle of the deck. The entire time I was straddling my backpack with my feet wedged against the walls the cockpit. This makes me question the advantage of the open deck. After I realized this, I'm starting to lean more towards the prowler BGII. The MX is also very heavy and the even though the BGII is longer it is 12lbs lighter. Quote
Jim Mac Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Ken, did you ever buy a kayak? I'm also interested in the Big Game 2, Predator 12' and Nucanoe Frontier 12'(for the stability and square transom). Thanks. Quote
KenG85 Posted May 2, 2014 Author Posted May 2, 2014 I bought the big game ii but won't have it for a week or so. I'll let you know whenI do. Quote
Don Keaton Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 I'm 55, 6'5" and 420 lbs, so I didn't have a lot of choices when I was looking for a boat. I bought the Big Game Prowler II about 2 weeks ago and just got it in the water this past Saturday for the first time. It had been about 25 years since I was last in a canoe, and I took couple of tip overs while regaining my sea butt, but once I got used to it, the thing is pretty stable. The web seat does have two positions - high and low, and low was definitely more stable for me. I was out for about 3 hours with my kids. We paddled upriver (not fast flowing) and upwind almost a mile, did some exploring, then leisurely floated back to the ramp. The seat is very comfortable. Once I got the back set correctly, I never experienced any discomfort. This thing is not a speed demon, but it was not difficult to paddle upstream and against the wind, and it's very comfortable. It is pretty heavy. It's too heavy for me to carry any distance by myself, and even one end is a bit heavy over distance for my 13 yr old son. My next purchase will be some kind of dolly, probably the TrailTrekker once I figure out what size I need (which is how I found this forum). Any advice on the dolly would be greatly appreciated. flipin4bass Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Man Ken...I like that yak! I purchased another Trident this winter, but I wished I would have gotten the BGII. You'll have to give us a good review after you have had it on the water. 1 Quote
