Jon Lester traded to the Oakland A's for Yoenis Cespedes ~ didn't see that one coming.

Thank you for your time in Boston - thoroughly enjoyed watching you play.

I like your style.

Good Luck and we'll see you in Cooperstown.

I definitely didn't see that coming either. Oakland is looking like a real AL powerhouse right now...

And now Price to Detroit! If only Verlander was still Verlander...

The Nats traded a utility infielder for a SS. Since we already have 3 SSs (Rendon, Desmond, Espinosa) starting on the infield, that made perfect sense...not sure it really affects anything.

Well now, I think H311 just froze. Never in my life have I recalled a Red Sox/Yankees trade, but the Sox traded Steven Drew to the Yankees for Kelly Johnson. I know, yawn, but a Red Sox/Yankee trade?

The gm has something in mind for next year, he has to or he's jobless...at least were still the champs until november.

KC has been sleeping on me, I just noticed they took, what, 3 of 4 from Oakland? Jumped ahead of the Tigers for first place? I haven't seen them play, but are they for real? Must be huh?

My Sox are looking better offensively these days, but too little too late I'm afraid.

MCS' O's are running away with the East. TBH, I hope they do very well in the playoffs!

Everyone says that though.....the only player i have seen actually do it was Cliff Lee turning down 30M from the Yankees to play in Philly....

oh and the Phillies are horrible, the braves well they stink too and it looks like the Nats are going to run away in the division by default and most likely get knocked out in the first round of the playoffs.

Good thing football season started :)  :)

I'm not just saying it because I'm a fan and i hope it happens, but Lester is a pretty grounded and decent guy, I don't think he's just blowing smoke...but we shall see.

I'm watching Seattle vs. Detroit, and its Felix Hernandez against David Price. Should be an epic duel!

I have serious doubts that Lester would come back. He's saying the right things, but I still think he's p1$$ed off at the Sox offer. I can't blame him, can you?

In what negotiation in the history of the world has the paying side not started low?

If i recall they went real low though.  I thought i read or heard them say it was probably 50-60M less than what he was able to get on the open market.

On a side note, are the sox the first team in history to go from worst to WS champs back to worst again?

Low and low ball are 2 different things. Start off between 5% & 10% lower than market value and go from there. 25% plus was a slap in the face.

Were hearing talk about that up here, not sure the answer..

I would hazard a guess that says most negotiations go from real low to a middle point, difference is a lot of players, regardless of the sport, get offended and blow it up to be a big deal..I don;t think Lester is like that, I think he understands the red sox are a business, and are in the business to pay low and get a high return.

The Sox also know that the players union won't let Lester sign for more than a 5% discount, so why go there in the first place?

Lester, or any other player vested, can sign for whatever amount they want, the union might not be pleased, but they cannot stop it. They can however stop the restructuring of an existing contract, where the player is attempting to accept a discount.

Valid point, but the Sox end up on the short end of that stick all the time...And don't even mention Pedroia, he was in that 5% range. There are very few who work/sign against the Union. Lester's not that stupid to go against the Union.

A few good pennant races heating up, especially in both centrals. I would love to see KC in the playoffs, really to see their fans go absolutely crazy. I didn't think the Brewers would hang, but I wasn't expecting them to be around this long! I really hope the Braves make one last run at the division, but they gotta start hitting and the Nats have to start losing. I'm predicting LAA vs LAD. LA showdown. Either way I can't wait to watch some playoff ball.
