What type of jig; finesse, flippin, swimming? Then there is the grass vs rocks issue? I make different ones for different fishing conditions. The main thing would be starting with a good quality hook not a Eagle Dull $3 per 100,000.

What I look for in a jig ......

First the hook MUST be sharp and good quality.  Then the hook must fit the application (size and wire).  Flippn' jig must have a stout hook.  Finesse jigs must have a strong light wire hook for better hooksets when fishing deeper.

Second is the head design ..... grass, flippn', football, finesse, etc

Lastly is color and skirt.  I don't know too much about the different skirts out there, but they all see to be quality in my opinion.  Color is a personal preference thing.  I basically use combos and variotions of 3 colors ...... green, brown, black.  I also like those skirts that aren't one solid color.  I don't know what they are called, but they are broken up my splotches of black.

I guess there is not one "perfect" jig IMO.

I would want it to be shaped like the jig made by Dr. Death bait company in Alabama. These jigs are absolutely SICK, they have the perfect shape, skirt, and the perfect hook. The only things I would change would be to make the weedguard out of fluorocarbon ,like on the Megastrike jigs, and add a wire trailer keeper like on the Terminator jigs. I will post a pic of the Dr. Death jig when I can.

Those are barbwire or tiger trac skirts.  Mostly barbwire though.  My favorite also.

Thanks alot guys.  Some good information here.

Its amazing how different we all fish.  How one thing is important to one of us and another is more important.

Here is my answers

what would it be shaped like? I really like the round head finesse style but more I fish the poison style I like it better.  Wide gap, head doesnt fall over easily, pulls through the grass better.

Type of hook? Wish Xpoint, owner made jig hooks in the styles I use.  Ultra points are really good because they hold up to the torture from me better then most others.

Color selection? natural colors browns, blacks, greens

Weights? 1/4-3/4

Type of weedguard? more flexible not a stiff one.

Type of collar or wire tied?  wire tied.  looks better and lasts longer
