Megastink Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 I have a duckett micro magic in MH. Its gonna be great for spinnerbaits. I am thinking about getting a Ghost rod for topwaters, jerkbaits and swimjigs (1/4oz). I'm not sure if I should go with the 6'10" Medium or 6'8" MH..... I dont know if the MH will be too stiff for trebles, but I dont know if the Medium will have enough backbone for the swimjigs. Thoughts? Quote
brandonss Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 I've read if your fishing with trebles go with a medium or medium heavy with a moderate action cause you don't have to have the power to set the hooks but with a swim jig you would probably need a medium heavy cause it has a single hook an it takes more power to get a good hook set Quote
bigfishbk86 Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 IMO, the MH will be fine with trebles, go with the MH Quote
GaterB Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 I've fished trebles with my MH Duckett Micro Magic. It definitely will do it, but given the option I'd rather use a Medium powered rod with a fast or moderate fast tip. I would throw the swimjig on a MH because it only uses the one hook that tends to be stronger and benefits from the extra muscle to drive that baby home. Quote
mnbassman23 Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 I've never fished the Ducketts, but in general I would go MH for Spinnerbaits/Swimjigs and have a Medium for Topwaters/Jerkbaits. The Medium Heavy will cast 1/4oz swimjigs + trailer with ease, but I wouldn't want a MH for topwater and jerkbaits. So unless the Ducketts have a very unique action compared to most other rod companies that would be my recommendation. Unless you are putting braid on this rod, then I have no problem throwing swim jigs on a medium action rod unless I'm around really thick cover. Quote
