I managed to get about 350 from the recent snow I the Midwest, and wanted to get some of your ideas on what rod and reel combos you would be the best for the money!

I am quite fond of the Abu Garcia Veritas rod and a Lews speed spool reel. Both can be found for less than $100.00 each most places.

Reel suggestions are easy.  What rod to suggest is dependant on what lures, what weight and what cover.

I can suggest a Fenwick Smallmouth series ($99.95 at fishusa) if their is one with the desired specs in the line.

I would agree the T3 is about the best deal for a reel around, if your serious about $100 the pflueger supreme casting reel might be an option ......if you can swing 80-100 for a rod your possibilities are almost limitless. In addition to the above mentioned you could go Shimano, St Criox, BPS Carbonlite, Daiwa, Falcon, Kistler...the list could go on.

T3 not only cause of the deal but when you get more money you can upgrade it quite easily to make it even better. Rod wise you have a ton of options and will get every one of them here lol

If I had $200 bucks to spend right now it would be on  either an Abu, Fenwick or Shimano rod in the $80 -$100 range, and an Abu, Shimano, or Pflueger reel in the same range. Although my next reel might just be some kind of Lew's just to see whats what with them.

This depends. Are you looking for one all-round combo? What do you already have?

I've had issues two Veritas micro guide rods with the guides. Pretty weak, be wary of this. I'd personally get either a St. Croix mojo bass or a *** *** black. As for the reel I would definitely pick up another T3B at this price. It is such a sweet reel, and the braking system is the best I've used.

Pro Qualifier reel and $100 rod that feels good in your hand. If your waterways are frozen like mine, wait until Spring sales and you might do better.

I don't own any other bait casters @$100 price point so I can't comment on any other brands at that price point. Though *** has Diawa T3 Ballistics on sale for $125 - which I own but haven't had the opportunity to fish with.

I own Abu, Shimano, Lews, and Diawa at or above $150 price points and really like them all with my Revo SX and Core50 Mg being the smoothest, but for $100 I doubt you'll do better than the PQ.

Best of luck with your search - this forum has beaucoup info to help you decide.

I recently added an Abu Garcia Orra SX to a vengeance I had, and bought a Vendetta Spinning rod. Early impressions my next rod will definitely be another vendetta, has been very good so far.

i would say abu garcia orra SX on a kistler carbon steel rod.

Duckett Ghost and Lews Speed Spool.

St. Croix Mojo/Abu Veritas/iRod Genesis II (this one is a little pricier, but worth it) and a Lews Speed Spool. I'd also take a look at the Cabelas and Bass Pro brand rods. It's no secret that many brands of rods come from the same factories, if you know what I mean...

Denali Jadewood or Kovert series rods and Lews Speed Spool make great pairs
