Couldn't find my hair jig box that I had put a ton of work into so started a new one. This time though I decided to tie them weedless with the mono loop and am extremly happy and wonder why I haven't done this before. I use one strand of 20# silver thread fluro for the 1/16 and a double strand for the 1/8 and it is awesome. Fished most of the day with a 1/16 and never lost it and caught a bunch of fish including an 18 inch smally and a toad of a drum. Can hardly wait to hit em hard with the ol spin rod this winter. Experimented with eight pound fluro on the 1/16 and it falls nice and slow and I believe will be deadly on home waters.

Hi, I'm a Morristown native myself, now living in SD. Sometimes wish I'd never left. Sounds like you got some good jigs going there and the TN rivers are full of good Smallmouth. Up here we're all about Walleye, Trout, Pike, etc. Although, I do still make a lot of In Line Spinners in the old Snagless Sally style. Don't know why you left Oregon (I caught some dang good salmon on the Columbia and Willamette), anyway enjoy TN and good fishing. Keep It Reel!!!!

Lived in Oregon for sixty years and moved out east to be with the grand kids and experience a new adventure. It's been tight but worth it. Big thing is wife let me keep my boat (she's awesome).

Have always tried to make my own baits from tying flys back in old days to pouring and tying jigs now for bass. Loved Oregon but it has really changed...it's still a slimerocket state (trout, salmon and steelhead) and thats all they care about so it's neat being in tennessee where for the most part if it swims it's respected.

P.S. I do miss fishing the Columbia in spring and catching 50 to a 100 big smallies a day with hardly a person in sight!!

I've noticed that the 20# mono that I'm using seems to go soft after fishing for awhile and the fly tends to snag more. Not much but if ya fish it a lot it does seem to go soft. So I'm going to try some fluro in a heavier test or double up (spin it) on some lighter stuff. That means more research on the water...whooohooo

Well...research is going well... .....I have doubled up on 17# silverthread fluro and it's awesome. Have missed a couple fish but I've done that on everything I use. The twisted fluro holds up well. Will try to send pics someday. (sorry)

i used light gauge wire (actually guitar wire) to make my hair jigs weedless but haven't been totally happy. 

i'm going to try fluoro or mono after i see ur work.

Mono does a great job on saving your jigs. I use it on the ones Tie up and its worth the extra effort. But I don't use it on all of them. Just a few I know will be thrown into the jungle. Works great on the jigs I tie up using Fish hair on also.

First tie fluro to shank....tie fly...and then fold doubled up fluro(or whatever you want to do) and tie off at head. A touch of sally hansens makes it forever.

I have modified some base pins down to 1/16" so I can use the smaller weedguards in my football mold. Now these are a PITA to make but I only use at most a dozen hair jigs a year so its fine. Bear hair is what seems to work best but it only comes in black so I am limited.
