BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted November 11, 2013 BassResource.com Administrator Posted November 11, 2013 Ever fall asleep at work? If so, you're not alone. About one- in- five people (22%) admit to having fallen asleep while on the job. Women are more likely to take a 'work nap' and accountants, more than any other profession, are most likely to fall asleep at work. I don't think that needs an explanation. The most shocking thing about 'work naps' (in my opinion, anyway) is the average on- the- clock snooze fest lasts 47 MINUTES! If you can slumber for almost an hour while at work... and no one notices... you have a boring job. While your boss and/ or your coworkers might frown on your work z's, there are worse places to fall asleep. Boring as the average wedding is, falling asleep at one is a no- no... although, falling asleep at a funeral probably trumps that. I think we can all agree that sleeping while driving is one of the worst scenarios. This past Monday in Dallas, a woman driving home after a 13- hour work shift drifted into dreamland and crashed... coincidentally... into a MATTRESS store. Sort of convenient. Truth is; other than being in bed, there are few times that falling asleep works in our favor... and that's what we wanted to talk about today: WHAT DID YOU END UP MISSING BECAUSE YOU WERE ASLEEP? Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted November 11, 2013 Super User Posted November 11, 2013 I slept for most of my high school graduation. Stupid slag next to me kept elbowing me and rah rahing at me. She was so rude. Slept through my sister in laws wedding. My at the time 1 year old son and I took a nap. When I woke up, we had missed the wedding. Barely made it un time ro the reception. Seriously though I was planning to miss the wedding anyway. My wife still doesn't know that though. Quote
preach4bass Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I worked in a heavy equipment shop for a couple of Summers while I was in college, and we had an older guy who would occasionally fall asleep while he was working under one of the pieces of equipment. He wasn't trying to slack off, he would just conk out while working from time to time when he was laying on his creeper. One day he fell asleep under a bullDOZER (see what I did there?) and was awoken when the wrench he was using to break a bolt loose fell and hit him in the face. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted November 11, 2013 Super User Posted November 11, 2013 I slept thru a Foghat show when they were touring bars in the early 90's. I woke up to the drummer(who if I recall was actually the drummer from Molly Hatchet) hitting on my ex wife when the show was over. I believe she still has the drumsticks he signed "I want to make babies with you" 2 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 11, 2013 Global Moderator Posted November 11, 2013 Well working nights I mostly miss daylight because I'm asleep Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted November 11, 2013 Super User Posted November 11, 2013 At least most I know that own their own business never fall asleep, just too much to do and too much responsibility. I was always up by 4:am doing clerical things before I started my days, then it was non stop go until I was done. Doctors are incredible, early morning rounds at the hospital, office hours, later afternoon rounds again at the hospital and many do some surgeries as well, very high stress occupation. A busy lawyer is going to be at it as much as 12 hours a day, sometimes that doesn't include research they do at home, I know scores of attorneys, many are family members. I fall asleep before the 4:00 Sunday football game is over, it's 1:30 am and I'm getting ready to go fishing, as I do almost everyday. Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted November 11, 2013 Super User Posted November 11, 2013 I used to work a 12 hour shift and than drive over an hour home. Dozing off got to be a problem at the wheel so started going out to the car with a sandwhich in hand. Than when I got to car I would sleep the rest of lunch break. Was a bit groggy going back into work but no more dozing going home!! Oh...I remember many years ago wife screaming at me when I fell asleep at the wheel. Scared me so bad haven't done it since!! Tight lines Quote

And even that does not always work in your favor. I won't go into details because this is a family friendly forum. I've missed 30 or 40 laps of the Daytona 500 while attending. I don't think I really missed anything then. Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 11, 2013 Super User Posted November 11, 2013 Wife took me to see the play, Les Misérables, on a weekday night and I went to sleep in the first act and woke up during the second act and saw what was going on and said in a loud voice," Who is that person?" Seems "that person" was the little girl that grew up in the second act. About six or seven people around us started to laugh and my wife could have killed me. I still think it was funny and she still thinks it was not. Hey, it's not easy getting cultured. Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 i missed the season premiere of Finding Bigfoot last night because i fell asleep if that counts... Quote
Helluva_Engineer Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 When I was going through initiation week for my fraternity, I was so tired I pretty much fell asleep anytime I wasn't in the fraternity house... I missed the stop on the bus route and got woken up by the driver at the end of the route. I missed the professor dismissing the lecture and got woken up by my friends after half of the next class was in the lecture hall. I missed studying for the big test I had on Friday because I fell asleep in the middle of the floor of my dorm, sad part is I wasn't on the floor when I fell asleep. Most fun I never want to have again. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted November 14, 2013 Super User Posted November 14, 2013 I worked a double shift and was heading home around midnight. I either dozed off, or was almost dozing, when I drove right past the turn I needed to make to get off of a dead end road. I woke up just in time and did a hard 180. Luckily I didn't hit anything or go off of the road. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted November 15, 2013 Super User Posted November 15, 2013 I feel asleep on my wedding night while my new bride was changing! As it turns out I didn't miss much! Needless to say she is my ex Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 I slept to within about 50 yards of the entrance to a bridge over a river on an interstate when I was about 17. Luckily the rough shoulder woke me up. Later after I was married and the kids were little I used to get sleepy and have to pull over a lot especially 1st thing in the morning. I used to work my regular 40-50hr / week job then umpire 3 nights a week from 5 till 10 or 11pm and on the weekends for 6 to 12hrs often both Sat and Sun. No problems now days. Quote
