Super User buzzed bait Posted October 9, 2013 Super User Posted October 9, 2013 Does anyone have any experience with this bait? I've fished it only a couple of times now, but I'm having a hard time walking it. I have to walk it pretty slow in order for it to not just come dead straight back at me. What am I doing wrong? Thanks! Quote
Super User David P Posted October 9, 2013 Super User Posted October 9, 2013 Something's gotta be wrong, cause it's one of my favorite baits and it walks with absolute ease... I work them extremely fast too and they walk with the best of them. What kind of line are you using? Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted October 9, 2013 Super User Posted October 9, 2013 Agree with David. One of the most excellent walk the dog baits, ever. Period. End of story. I can make a rover do things that no other bait will do. I can walk it slow or fast, get it to move very slowly forward while walking very wide. I can get the rover to turn 180 degrees on itself. That applies to both sizes. The bigger bait walks easier, but it certainly doesn't walk any better. Quote

That's pretty much why i had to post this topic, every review i've read says it's the easiest bait to walk period. I'm using 14lb mono, 6'6' St Croix Triumph and a 6:4:1 Revo S3. when i was able to walk it (slow) it had awesome action, but just couldn't get the same when i tried to speed up my retrieve.... Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted October 9, 2013 Super User Posted October 9, 2013 What are the specs on the rod? Power/Taper? Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted October 9, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 9, 2013 What are the specs on the rod? Power/Taper? May have forgot that little bit.... Model is TRC66MF so Medium - Fast Quote
mnbassman23 Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 As the others have said it is a great bait and has awesome walking action. I fish the bigger model (size 128 if i remember correctly). Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted October 9, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 9, 2013 Ok, I appreciate all the input guys. I believe I just need more practice with it and maybe trying it out on a couple different set ups to see if that makes a big difference for me. I've heard great things about the bait and am looking forward to catching some fish on it! I believe the ultimate answer = USER ERROR Quote

I use braid, but mono certainly works, a higher speed reel helps but isn't a must and shouldn't be causing the issue, a longer rod helps a bit too but all of these factors shouldn't cause the issues you're having. Maybe not creating enough slack in your line ? Quote

Maybe not creating enough slack in your line ? i have a much easier time walking all sizes of spooks and easier time working with the sammy's, but for some reason just having some difficulty with this guy. perhaps you're right about needing some more slack. i know that the last time i tried the bait (last saturday) it was very windy and that didn't seem to be helping me out.... i'm just frustrated by it because of the raving reviews about the ease of use! i suppose practice makes perfect Quote

Do you tie yours directly to the eye or do you use the oval split ring that came on it? Quote
Super User David P Posted October 22, 2013 Super User Posted October 22, 2013 I like split rings on the bait, I feel like it helps get me a little more action and make it a bit looser. I don't use the stock ones though, I have bent them out before on fish because I use braid when fishing these baits. I replace it with an Owner Hyper wire split ring. Quote
