Fluro Knot Retie Wasting Line

Any knots you guys tie that doesn't waste a lot of line for reties.  i like a little room to work with my knots so my tag end are about 3 inches are so...maybe a knot where it slips down to the eyelets to save line?

I use san diego jam knot with fluoro and usually have a minimal tag end. I don't think there are any knots that have no tag end.

ohk maybe alittle more like 6... i the shaw g knot on my fluro but i go through so much line its crazy and that's just on my jig rod

If you get good at it, you can tie Shaw's knot with minimal line usage. 6" of doubled line or 12" overall, maybe a little less, is all I use generally without a problem.

It's probably the strongest knot for fluoro I've found. I just live with it. Unless your retying constantly with new lures, the knot should last awhile. I've got 2-3 trips on the same knot.

It's like a lot of things, the more you start out with, the more you'll end up with...

 

Been useing the SDJ for everything but braid.

Very strong and easy to tie.

I use the trilene knot, you can limit the tag end wasting very easily.

Have you tried Pitzen knot? Shw g knot is double version of this knot. Depending on how many wrap you do, you might save some line.

well i like the shaw g knot its quick easy and very strong. Im targeting big bass with jigs dragging them over rock piles and stuff like that.. so every time I catch a fish or there's a nick in my line I re-tie.. 

 

ill check out the pitzen knot and the SD knot.. hows the strength of these knots compared to shaws ?

My personal 'very limited' test, Shaw G > Pitzen > SD Jam. But they were pretty close I though.

Before retying you should examine your line to see if the end has to be trimmed back.  If I happen to go thru a bit more line than expected it's just part of fishing.  I don't think having a short tag end is an important issue, it's only line.  I approach lures the same way, never fish with one I don't expect to lose, it's gonna happen.  I do not get overly protective of line, using a leader may eliminate some of the waste.

Through eye twice uni knot is what I use braid fluro. Knot Wars went head to head this knot and palomar, uni won. Too the tag end can be minimal just enough tho pinch/hold with fingers 1/2"-1" or so.

When I tie an improved clinch for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits knot there's no trimming involved - I end up with a 1/4" to 1/2 " tag, which actually helps keep junk from catching on the knot. Uni knots for jigs and worm hooks leave a couple inches, and I trim them almost flush to the knot.  Palomars and Alberto connections leave the most.  Not much you can do about it.

Red Earth has a point......I use Tatsu which is not cheap. I tie the improved clinch all the time. I have longer tag ends most times. Big Whoop. I tie perfect knots and thats what I am concerned with.... not the foot or 2 +/- it takes to tie a knot.

Ok, so feel free not to make a post in a topic asking what knot wastes the least line. There was no arguement, just suggestions, until you and Red Earth came in telling the guy he shouldn't worry about it.

I worked at tying the Trilene and Pitzen knots with only an inch of tag because I'm cheap like that. But I will cut and retie in a heartbeat if I don't turn out a good clean knot because I'm obsessive like that. I'd rather lose a few inches of line than a nice fish.
