Your Experience With Smaller Neighborhood Canals

This is not a "how do i fish canals" question.

 

I've fished my local canal 5-10 times since I moved and can catch Mayans all day but no bass. I've pretty much given up on it for now. I was just wonder if you guys have experienced catching fish in these little drainage canals when the weather turns.

 

I have to imagine that these canals get too hot for much action during the dead of summer but I would love the idea of being able to walk one block down and catch bass in November and December.

Since I have been a kid, I have wanted to fish that particular canal. I fished eon's ago the canal that runs perpendicular across the street in the plaza where the footlocker is located. All of these canals have fish. Work the culverts, and work the cover when available. The county cleans these canals frequently, so cover is sparse sometimes. Rvadog, your area is stacked with good spots all within 3-5 mile radius. I have been fishing your area a lot recently. The fish in my avatar was caught five minutes from the canal in question location. I know what your thinking and no I will not reveal the location, however, I emphasize your area is stacked with plenty of spots.

I haven't fished the canals out west in over 30 years, I used to fish all over but there were few homes.

 

I recently moved to Cooper City, after spending some 45 ot years in Hollywood, during my runs/walk out here I notice the condition of the canals water is very nasty as to what I remember it to be, also lots of garbage around the main roads.

 

Maybe its due to the high water and all the pumping.  Saw a few decent size peacock  off 90th and something big running bait in the Griffin Rd. canal around 110th.

Gar, I didn't know you live in Cooper City. I got some good spots in Rock Creek. Come over and fish sometime

Somebody say Cooper City? I'm 15 minutes east but my wife works there. If you ever need a fishing partner give me a heads up.

I used to live in Coral Springs, same types of canals. The canal behind my house was very predictable in the summer heat. The best time to fish is early morning when the water has cooled some, right before it rains, or in the evening right before dark.

I tried to fish a really small canal, here where I live, no luck, I can see the bass chasing the baits but for some reason they won't bite. I'm new to South Florida.It loos that there's endless places to fish around here.

I fished a feeder canal about 6 weeks ago, water was high and fairly void of vegetation and thought the area around the culvert may produce some peacocks.  No peas but I did catch a 22" LMB, that I quickly introduced into one of my ponds, may have been one of the largest I ever caught from a tiny canal, since then nothing to speak of.
