The Young Gun Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Hey everyone, just got this reel a day and a half ago off eBay brand new in box and since I couldn't get out on the lake I decide to pitch to cups in my yard. I read online this reel has 14lbs of drag and I plan on using it for flipping/pitching. I go lock the drag to see how hard it is to pull line out and locked down I can pull line out with ease. I compared it to my abu black max 2 and the b max I can't move an inch. What's goin on? Should I return the reel and call lews? I'm not impressed... Please any help would be appreciated. TYG Quote
Solution Grantman83 Posted August 23, 2013 Solution Posted August 23, 2013 Is it spooled with straight braid? If so it may be slipping because the Braid is smooth. Try tying backing and then attaching the braid Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted August 23, 2013 Super User Posted August 23, 2013 If it's spooled up and your pulling line out with a full drag, something is wrong. I have the exact reel and its awesome. On full drag you cannot pull line out. You might have to return it for a new one. Do not let this mishap, deter from using a Lews MG. You will regret it. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted August 23, 2013 Super User Posted August 23, 2013 My bet is he spooled up with no backer, and the braid is slipping on the spool. Solution: Unspool, add a few yards of mono, and spool the braid on top of that. Quote
The Young Gun Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 Gosh you guys are good, it's spooled straight braid.. Thanks for the help! Quote
