How Do You Guys Fish The Summer?

 I struggle fishing the summer. Told not to fish in shallow water...told to go to deep water. Then I hear some anglers say fish shallow it could still hold big fish. Here in Warner Robins the bass are all spawning here again. The question is how do you fish the summer?

I try to be very, very, patient and persistent. Summer, is very challenging for me. Especially this year for some reason. Living down here in S.Fl. this time of year is extremely hot and humid I feel it and the fish do to. What I have found to be extremely helpful is to look for areas that have plenty of cover for ex. pads, grass. I thought about rocks, but I have dismissed it because they absorb and put off heat. Rocks are better for the winter. Lastly, culverts. They offer 3 things. Running water after a storm, shade from the sun and ambush points. If you stick with it, some days will be better than others. This summer although challenging for me, has been by far the most rewarding when it comes to bass fishing. I have caught 2 bass in the last two months that have been close 7lbs. Using the 2 tips I have provided you. Good luck.

I fish points and humps looking for suspended fish. Pitching bridges has done well for me. But the same time I caught a 7 lber that was 25inchs in a foot of water near some cypress stumps on a 100 degree day with the sun beating down a 2 in the afternoon. About 2 weeks ago

If there is good vegetation I start there, later in the day will slow down and use wacky rig and or jigs.  The fish can and will be shallow in summer, Bass do not always go deep in some lakes, look for oxygen, cooler water temps and prey items this can be found in the shallows as well.  Lilly pads in my area is a killer place to start..

I stay off the lakes and fish rivers. Fish are always pretty shallow when they are seldom over 6 feet deep. I always find lots of active biters.

If you really want to fish shallow find some lilly pads, but while fishing deep, find humps in the lake and throw a 1 oz. football jig and bounce it along the hump, it really pays off but you have to be patient.

By day, look for suitable structure and cover, good ambush points and Bait.

 

 And then be all Sneaky & Go back at night.

Their are several areas that I'll pitch a creature bait or cast a senko where the vegetation thins out a little but though.

 

Find the weeds and find the fish! The O2 levels in the water get low when it warms up, so find the weeds and you'll find the fish.

Just came back from fishing near a canal by my house. Today I caught 3 LMB on the frog. Yesterday same canal, same time, nothing. You just have to get your line wet, as much as you can. It becomes a numbers game.

x2  buzz bait early and late are killer for me.. tonight I caught a nice 6 pounder on a small single blade buzz bait.. they've been hitting it better then my larger ones

I primarily fish shallow year round, even the winter months and catch a good amount, it's all about presentation. In the summer ill start out with something slow moving like a drop shot or Shakey head or a jig and If I'm not getting bit on that ill switch over to a squarebill or medium diving Crankbait and go around docks and rocky points and if there are any pads or mats then ill throw a frog. Just a different combination for a different season.

Summer is generally vacation time for bass, in my experience. I lower my expectations and just enjoy the challenge & stress-free environment. Low expectations makes a big catch better too.

I like to find structure like a creek bed, and position the boat right over it.  Then I will work a big worm or jig around the creek bed or parallel to it.

It is pretty hot and humid, all I do is go to one of my community ponds in the PM for 45 minutes or so.  I fish nothing but a topwater lure on light set up.  I don't go to the canals until at least October, grass is high now and after they cut it the growing season is over, the gnats disappear then too.
