I have seen a lot about how they are updating the 5500C3, etc.,   But have you guys seen the round reels that bear the same name as the Revo reels.  The STX, SX, & S?  I wonder what the difference in these and the 5500C3 are?  I first saw them in the Abu Garcia 2014 Catalog and some youtube videos are starting to come out.

I doubt they'd undermine successful model names that way. These might be replacing the C3, C4 designations? Time will tell soon enough.

No, the C3, C4, and Record are getting reworked.  Swept handles and drag stars are part of the upgrade:

The Record is also jumping to $200 MSRP.  The C4 is likely to stay at the $120 price point, so my guess is the Ambassadeur S, SX, and STX will fall in between those two.  $140 for the S, $160 for the SX, and $180 for the STX doesn't seem too unlikely.

No such luck, it apparently wasn't a seller at that size.  I just cant believe they did away with the easy take down screws.

I have been very curious about these reels.  They look great!  What's the benefit of these over a low profile baitcasting reel?

so the STX is gonna be $99 with the S being $59.  I believe the SX will be around $79.  Weird that they would make reels very similar to the 5500C3 in the same price range.  I believe the 5500c3 is now going to be $120 so the new ones are going to be below the originals.

More line capacity, bigger/bulky can handle more abuse, good for big baits

I do believe the 5500C3, etc are made in Sweden and the new STX, etc are going to be made elsewhere.

I have some of the older abu round reels.  They are built like tanks.

Like others have said, they're solid as a rock. reliable,, strong and smooth. Some don't care for the bulk and weight, but I find them easier on my hands than low-profile reels. Another plus in that the're easy to take down for service, and parts are readily available. I have eight of the round Ambassadeurs, and love every one of them. I've been fishing some of them for 30= years, and with routine maintenance, I expect them to go another 30.

I just found this thread after returning from Gander Mountain empty handed. "Got a C3 5500?" I asked, not even seriously questioning, because of course they would. Nope!  Plenty of 5501's for .RM. though... the guy jacked around with his computer for 10 minutes and seemed pretty confused himself that he couldn't even get one shipped to the store, finally announcing that were completely sold out online too. I checked various other retailers' web sites and the last of this generation is drying up fast. Swept handles, huh? Sounds like ad copy for the Edsel...

I had heard that they are bringing the Morrum back for the US Market. Any truth to that?
