mattk22 Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I have used Strike King 5XD, Rapala DT16, and Spro Little John DD. The 5XD and DT16 are great baits. I am slightly disappointed in the Spro, I love Spro baits, but man does it pull hard. I am wore out after fishing this thing for an hour. Anyone use Bomber? Thinking of trying a Fat Free Shad D7 and M7. Anything else I should look at? Quote
Super User tomustang Posted July 22, 2013 Super User Posted July 22, 2013 BPS xps crankbaits, you don't need to change the hooks and they cost less than any other brand. Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Well you could try a 6XD or a Rapala DT20 since you're already familiar with those brands. I like the Spro LJ DD very much, it's one of my two favorite deep divers along with the 6XD. You may also want to check out Norman's DD22 and the Spro Fat Papa. The Fat Papa only dives to 14 feet but I really like it, it has a really wide thumping action. 1 Quote
tgm Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I use Bomber bd7 and bd7 suspending best in the business and priced right . Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted July 22, 2013 Super User Posted July 22, 2013 Looks like a good list going so far, I would add the 6th Sense Crush 300DD 2 Quote
JKarbo214 Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Although a bit pricey... I really like the Lucky Craft D-20. Great hooks and a quality bait. You get what you pay for in my opinion. Quote
bgraham91 Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Bomber Fat Free Shad/Strike King 6XD/Norman DD22 are my 3 favorite deep divers 1 Quote

Cwitherington3 Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Strike king 5XD and 6Xd all I ever throw and occasionally a 10XD 1 Quote
paangler13 Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I still throw a few of the old Mann's 30+ too. That sucker is a thumper! Fish all day with it and you know it! I also throw the Rapala DT's, a few 6xd's, and DD22's. The Normans get fewer bites for me, but they are big ones usually. Deep cranking is my favorite way to fish, and it is worth learning how to do it just for "mapping out" areas to fish with a worm or jig for example. Jim Quote
martintheduck Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I only stick with Mann's and Norman's. As for "getting worn out" - watch this video on youtube and do the stretches!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSrfB7JIzxY I've really improved my ability to fish heavy baits for extended periods of time. Deep divers, 1/2oz jigs, and 1oz punch setups wear me down, but it's gotten a lot better since I started doing these. Quote

SDoolittle Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Bomber Fat Free Shad/Strike King 6XD/Norman DD22 are my 3 favorite deep divers Mine too. In that order. Quote
bgraham91 Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I would recomend a 5.4:1 gear ratio or at least that's what I prefer with deep divers. You can fish a deep divers all day with that gear ratio without feeling like you've worked all day. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted July 24, 2013 Super User Posted July 24, 2013 Strike king 5XD and 6Xd all I ever throw and occasionally a 10XD Same here as far as deep divers go, if you can't get bit on those baits, the cranking bite is off. Tying on a $15-$20 bait is not going to make the switch flip. BONUS...........they are a lot more friendly on the wallet in pike/muskie/pickerel infested waters, even with a hook swap. Quote
HMGBASSER Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 I have no problem on spro dd or 6xd what rod reel u using Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 24, 2013 Super User Posted July 24, 2013 I have some of the older deep divers that have a big wobble, and a huge bill on them. You need heavy tackle to fish them because of the pull when you bring them in, and after a couple hours you have gotten quite a work out. Quote
mattk22 Posted July 24, 2013 Author Posted July 24, 2013 I am using a 7'8 St. Croix Mojo Glass Crankster Rod. Have no issues, but for some reason the Spro seem to pull a lot harder then the others. I bought some bombers that I am going to try in a pot tournament tomorrow night. Quote
