I was excited to try soft frog on 50lb PP  on my BC but after a couple casts from the  bank before getting in boat it bird nested bad and was unable to fix it. Had to put in truck. I had one hit on too. I think the problem was I should have had braking on 3 instead of 2. After fixing line I put on 3 brakes it cast well in my yard even with a little zip to cast. Was bummed because first time using reel as well.

It happens. I've had plenty of days where I've been skunked. Then theres those days you break a rod. Or backlash a brand new spool of some expensive fishing line so bad you have to cut it out, and you just put the line on there...

Yup. That stinks. First time out in my kayak was also my first time out with one of my reels spooled with 16# Sunline Sniper FC. 3rd or 4th cast I birdnest so bad I couldnt use the reel anymore until I cut the line out. That sucked.

Happens to everyone.  This year, I had just spooled my Curado50E with P-Line Floroclear ...after catching a 3lb bass I was so excited and gotten way to over confident in throwing into the wind..I really chucked it too hard and bam..big time birds nest.  I didn't bring another rod with me because I had my kids with me, so I was out of commission.  Couple of weeks ago, I was shore fishing with new invizx spooled and didn't pay attention when I was casting, I hit some weeds behind me...big time birds nest had to cut that line too! Darn weeds, always playing tricks on you.

I spooled my new Steez with sniper FC yesterday and got hung on something way out there about my 3rd cast and had to break off. Ended up breaking off again later on pretty far out. Had to re spool when I got home. It's fishing,stuff happens!

Went out this evening to fish a frog with power pro. I did well this time with only one small backlash, not bad for first time out on water with it. Now I dont feel so intimidated fishing my BC with braid.

50 lb power pro is what i use mainly. It takes some getting used to but after that its wonderful and i know for sure that there isnt a fish thats gonna break my line

50lb is great to learn on.  I draw the line at 30lb but some go lower on baitcast gear.  It's all a learning curve.

Just remember if you do get a nest, DON'T YANK!  That'll save it digging in on you and ruining the spool.

Remember to spray it with Kvd line conditioner before each outing. I find that helps. If the outfit you are using is used solely for frogging, once you dial in your reel you will be set.

Here is a trick that will help you;

After spooling the braid on your reel, tie the end to something then pull off about 50 yards of line. Next wrap the remaining line on the spool with Teflon plumbers tape or masking tape a few wraps. Then wind the braid 50 yards of line back on the reel. This will hold the spooled line deeper in the reel from back lashing.

I think I know the answer, but smaller lb braid cast farther? Makes me feel silly asking but just want to make sure same as mono in the respect. I somewhat rookie at braid.

A smaller diameter braid increases the chances of it digging into self. Braid is already thinner than mono to begin with so fishing 30lb-50lb braid will make superior to mono.

It's been gone over that l&l doesn't help braid. I think it's in your head.

when i first got my reel, i didnt have the drag set right and only two brakes were on.. casted it and boom.. MAJOR backlash, spend an hour untangling it.. worked at it when most people would have given up, just used my first day of fishing with it as a learning experience.. i still have most the brakes on.. but im taking them off one by one.. actually, i should keep the centrifugal brakes on atleast 4 and work on reducing the spool tension instead
