Glyon10 Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 I am new to Bass Resource so I should first introduce myself.. My name is Gavin I am 15 years old turning 16 this month. I have loved fishing my whole life and have just experienced tournament fishing with my uncle and I am now hooked. I am always wanting to know more so any tips or knowledge you would like to share would be much appreciated. Fishing in Columbus Ohio can be tough due to our crazy weather, my main question is what to look for as far as the best times to fish? How do fronts affect the bass and the bite? Also, does the weather affect whether the fish are shallow or deep? Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 7, 2013 Super User Posted July 7, 2013 Cold fronts shut down the bass. After the front moves through and you have blue bird skies the fishing is tough. More fun to fish as the front approaches and during its passing, even if it is raining. Check out "weather" on the Forum's search engine in the upper right corner and check out what is posted. Best time to fish? Anytime. Beats school and homework!!! Early in the morning at sunrise throw topwaters. Late in the evening at sunset throw topwaters. Cloudy days the bass move around. Sunny days the bass will hold close to cover and look for something over their head. Happy Birthday. Have a great day and a super year. 1 Quote

Stren_g Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I also have had luck when the weather is "consistent" say if you have several days of the same type of weather. Sam summed it up in a nutshell though. There's tons of stuff to read on how weather affects fish! Quote
bonzai22 Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Yeah i live in Illinois and the weather is crazy so especially for tournament fishing where u need to adapt on the spot it is good to learn how the weather affects them but its definitely not always easy. Quote
rangerboy Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 the tournament tips pages are a great read here on br, welcome and happy b day Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 9, 2013 Super User Posted July 9, 2013 My standard rule of weather is that when I hear thunder I get off of the water. Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted July 9, 2013 Super User Posted July 9, 2013 Learned from fishing tourneys that someone always catches fish no matter what the conditions. I remember my first cold rainy early spring tourney on the Oregon coast. It was a coastal open and me and a friend thought we could make some easy money. Wow.....it was handed to us. We had one small trout for two days and I was hooked due to the challenge of this sport. Good Luck Quote
