Megastink Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 You need to "like" Powell on facebook if you havent already. They just put up a picture of a new line of rod they will be launching at ICAST! Not many details, except they reference a "Ball of Fire" in the intro. Interesting. They seem to feature a new reel seat. Forgive me, I dont know the specific model..... Anyway, check it out!!! Quote
Hogsticker Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 I like the orange trim rings, but not a fan of the what looks like Pac Bay minima reel seat. I wonder if this is going to be there new high end rod, or slotted between the Max and Endurance. I wish Powell would come out with some actions other than extra fast. Quote

Powell has alot of other actions then just extra fast. The make some of the best crankbait rods I have ever used. 1 Quote
Arv Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Really excited about the new line. They're going to offer an opportunity to win one it sounds like. Quote
BrettD Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Any way someone can post pics here for the people that dont do facebook. Quote
Hogsticker Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 ??? Powell has alot of other actions then just extra fast. The make some of the best crankbait rods I have ever used. They actually don't unless it's composite or glass. All the standard graphite Max and Endurance series rods are extra fast. Quote

Megastink Posted June 6, 2013 Author Posted June 6, 2013 They actually don't unless it's composite or glass. All the standard graphite Max and Endurance series rods are extra fast. I have a 7'3" Heavy FAST action Max rod. It's a great light flipping stick. As far as the EF actions go, I've come to realize that fast vs extra fast varies from company to company. Example: I have two Max 7' Medium EXTRA FAST rods that I use or spinnerbaits/swim jigs/chatterbaits because the top third of the rod is very forgiving. These two sticks double as my Jerkbait and topwater rods. I wouldn't hesitate to throw a big square bill or even a deep diver on them. Moral of the story: what is written on paper isn't necessarily what's written in stone. Quote
BrettD Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 They actually don't unless it's composite or glass. All the standard graphite Max and Endurance series rods are extra fast. Look at the endurance 764 fast,804 fast,725 fast then you have the crankbait rods that are graphite like the max704cb,705cb,endurance 804cb,752cb. Then there is a couple of other rods that are discontinued that are fast action. Not all fast rods are equal for example a extra fast dobyns is abou equal to a fast action falcon. Just like not all mh are true mh rods. Quote

38 Super Fan Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Horrible looking rod lol. Powell may make some good rods, but they sure aren't pretty. Quote
Arv Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Powell may make some good rods, but they sure aren't pretty. I would agree, haha Quote

Super User BASSclary Posted June 7, 2013 Super User Posted June 7, 2013 Beautiful rod with a SOL on it, however, poor choice in reel seat imo. 1 Quote
skeletor6 Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 It will be interesting to see where Powell prices these. You would think since powell has a rod in the sub $100, Sub $150, and Sub $200 price point that it might be priced even higher. Time will tell, thanks OP Quote
HuskyKMA Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 My guess is that this rod fits in between the Diesel and Max series at around the $100 mark. That price-point is quite popular and I think Powell wants in on it. There's a lot of people out there who want the best rod they can get for $100 and Powell can't get them with the Max series. That's also the style reel seat you see on a lot of the $100 rods (Abu Garcia Veritas, *** ***, Shimano Compre, etc.). Quote

Hogsticker Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 I'd be willing to bet this is Powells 1st stick with micro guides. Likely why no pics of the blank have surfaced yet. I wonder if it's gonna be another one of those no warranty offered deals like with the Diesel. Quote
BrettD Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 If the price is right you dont need a warranty. Diesels cost as much as what most rod companies charge for their replacement program. 1 Quote

Super User Sam Posted July 11, 2013 Super User Posted July 11, 2013 Beautiful rod with a SOL on it, however, poor choice in reel seat imo. For some reason you cannot receive any new messages. No idea why. Here is my message to Bassclary for his response: If memory serves me right don't you want two tickets to the Friday night NASCAR Nationwide Series race in Richmond? Please confirm. When I get the tickets I will get back with you for your mailing address. Don't forget to remind me in August. Thanks, Sam Quote
